The Food Lab: Do 'Better' Eggs Really Taste Better?

I went to an Eggland's Best event recently and one of their managers was yelling at me how he only eats the regular caged eggs, because he knows what they eat (a specific nutritious formula feed). Whereas the caged-free chickens eat their own shit and kill each other ("pecking order"). The CEO also agreed he eats the regular large eggs, but he put it in kinder words.

They sell both organic cage free and regular caged eggs. So I thought that was very interesting since they had any choice of egg they want ...and they produce them.

Lunch for One: Oxtail Stew at Sophie's Cuban

I love oxtail stew! I wonder why it usually costs so much more. I'd think it's a throw away piece of meat.

Triple-Patty Rodeo Whopper Available for a Limited Time at Burger King in Japan

'Brutta ma Buona' in Taiwan, Part 2: Xiaren Rou Yuan, Niu Za Tang, and Youyu Geng

Interesting. I like how that bowl is sitting on Chinese newspapers.
Reading this while I eat Chinese at my desk. Seeing that newspaper on my monitor in my peripheral vision and looking at my own food gave me moment --I didn't think I was at my desk, but transported some place else. Interesting.

A Sandwich a Day: Mozzarella and Prosciutto at Tedone Latticini

I wonder if you were there at the same time ahead of me. I remember her saying to let her taste the eggplant. Was there a guy ahead of you that also got a sandwich and a bunch of other things --$30-40? And a guy with Farrah Fawcett hair behind you taking photos of the prosciutto on the slicer?

NCAA Basketball Tournament: 64 Great Foods in 64 College Towns

@mmmsushi... Yeah, krishna lunch was free when I first started school there in 1995. Then quickly started at a $1 donation and every semester it seemed like 50cents more. Well, I guess they slowed down at some point. I really like that havla cream of wheat dessert they have. I've tried to find some sort of version up here in NYC --no luck.

@Gator Pam... thanks for that video. Looks interesting.

@StarMinion1... Everyone keeps telling me about Satchel's. One of my friends/bandmates up here worked on the construction of it. Says it's awesome. He likes it a lot more than Leonardo from my days.

@jwood... that's sad about Tony & Pat's. Another friend/bandmate just told me recently she worked there. I remember I would often bring back a slice from the buffet under those blinding red heat lamps to find that I brought back a White slice.

...And I apologize for recommending Cluck-U, but that sandwich is so good. I was just researching it last week and thinking of traveling to a Jersey branch to just to see if they have that chicken sandwich I remember.

NCAA Basketball Tournament: 64 Great Foods in 64 College Towns

BTW, for Florida (Gainesville), my favs were:
- Terrell's BBQ trailer ...best for leftovers the next day (microwaved)
- Caribbean Spice - haven't found better meat patties or coco bread up here in NYC/Brooklyn
- Krishna food in the plaza was great for the price
- Even Cluck-U Chicken had the best chicken sandwich I've ever had (I think it was the Roman with fried breaded chicken, melted mozzarella and creamy ranchy or roman dressing. It was probably 2,600 calories.

Then I guess El Indio's Chimichanga (that a wasp once flew onto my platter but I still ate it) and El Toro's Fried Bread and Tony's Pizza buffet deserves a mention. But this is all ten years ago. Things might have changed. I'm an old man now. How much does Krishna food go for these days?

Go Gators! ...because of alliteration.
Too bad they crapped out of 2 OT, but still amazing job.
Great Game! ...more alliteration.

Reality Check: The Jumbo Jack with Cheese

Hm... I think photo#2 looks better than #1(stylized). #1 looks too fake and if it was really served that way, I'd be scared to eat it. See how the cheese folds over unmelted.

#2 looks like a tasty gooey greasy burger ...and that's why I'd be eating this from Jack in the Box, right?

Only in New York*: Get Papa John's By-the-Slice, 99¢

At some point since moving to New York, I forgot how there are a lot of towns where Papa Johns & Pizza Hut is the best pizza you can get. I know the times I've had it here in the city, it doesn't seem the same --I don't get any nostalgia. Perhaps it's because they went downhill or maybe I'm experiencing better food now ...but just maybe stoner teens make better pizza than struggling middle-aged men who probably recently got laid off from a nice job (which is what I notice when I walk by PJ or Dominos in NY).

Yeah, people shouldn't hate. The big pizza franchises bring jobs, decent food and cherished memories (remember that rad b-day pizza party or the time when you licked the slices so you're sister wouldn't eat it?). These big pizza guys might not make much sense in NYC, but it does to the rest of the world.
