No Burger Bliss at Bohemia Bagel in Prague, But At Least the Fries Are Good
The Czech bacon sounds awesome. The "leftover tomator water," not so much.

DiNic's roast pork rules! You've got to order it with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe.

My new task: HLLSTBSP (Help Lizy Like Sausage, Tomatoes, Bananas, Sourdough, and Pickles). I will try very hard not to pile them on one sandwich. We will start the effort next week; potentially there will be bumper stickers.
Before I judge you for not liking these foods, I have to say, we have a pretty special solidarity I didn't know about. Curing meats in Prague! Well, mine was gravlax, but close enough.

Hi Lizzy!
DAH! NO PICKLES??!! I suggest you retract. hahaha
Someday I hope you find a pickle you like!

I'm with you on the bananas and tomatoes (except exceptionally good jersey beefsteak tomatoes in the month of august, no one can dislike those) but SAUSAGE?!?!?! SE Crew, your job is to cure poor Lizy of this affliction. You are missing out on a world of good. Start with the veal sausage at minetta tavern served with morels and spring asparagus ...mmmmmmmmm

@carriebwc. My sausage thing comes from some really bad experiences with breakfast sausages and then carried over into other types. I do like dried sausage and italian sausage, but in general it kindof grosses me out.
@anysuchname. I guess I didn't see a place to describe the "foodie foods" I like, but be assured, I like veggies. True, I like some kid foods (Peanut butter and fluff and juice boxes in particular), but they're often the safest things to eat in a college cafeteria! :)

I almost stopped reading when dislikes included pickles but you got me back with the Cheez Wiz.

wow, not that everyone has to like ramps, prosciutto, morels and other fancy foodie foods but... no veggies? i mean, i guess lizy looks like a kid so it follows that she would have kid tastes, but i hope that as an intern you try and find some new things you like.

"sausage" is a pretty wide category of food. all sausage? breakfast sausage? italian sausage? dried sausage? i'm curious.

I was guessing SE got new interns when I saw your posts. Wonder who else is interning this summer.

I don't know if I can trust a foodie who has aversions to sausage and tomatoes.

I thought I was reading MY profile! With such similar tastes (literally), I'm looking forward to your posts.

I think I'd rather date a pulled pork sandwich than a guy too...looking forward to reading more.

@milkyway; I couldn't even hear One Onion, or whatever he or she or it calls itself. I think it's the consequences of losing, and being part of a tiny minority in a tiny part of the world...they just don't get it.

@Oneiron...if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Do they have McDonald's/BK over there? I would be curious to see how those are...

A Bohemia Bagel breakfast sandwich (egg and cheese on mine, thanks), juice and a cup of coffee make for the perfect start to a day. Well, any day in Prague is a pretty good day, to be honest. But it's better with breakfast. We had our honeymoon in Prague and were a five-minute walk from Bohemia Bagel, so we went a lot.

I also studied in Prague and these fries were single-handedly responsible for my excessive weight gain... Delicious!! Also, the tomato soup is great.

I only got the burger once, because at about 7 bucks american, its a pretty astonomical price for a meal in prague.
And i do recall similar problems with the burger being overcooked. But i was smart enough to get some shrooms on the sucker...and substituting Biscuits and Gravy for fries was so money...
stick with the breakfast sandwich at Bohemia, and if you need a burger the other expat hangout Jama might be a better stop.

Oh Bohemia Bagel... Prague's greatest outpost of American capitalism, bringing bagels and free refills to Central Europe and brazenly owning the museum of communism. Awesome. As I recall, one of the locations has tex mex night on thursdays.
But if you want a real burger (or just generally a respite of Americanism, in a delicious and unobnoxious way) in Prague, you have to go to Restaurace Jama on V Jame, near Vaclavske Namesti. Mmmm, onion rings.

@raymondc: Not sure if this was what Ms. Yagoda intended, but when I read "unaccented English," I thought she meant English sans European/Czech accent -- the people who happened to be speaking it were Americans.
This was an ongoing joke between an old coworker and I when I worked at a drug lab -- we'd use my then bf, who was a tall, broad, dirty blonde all-American looking guy, as the front person in a burger joint in Thailand because it makes it *seem* more authentic to see an American greeting/up front at an American food establishment than any other nationality. My co-worker was a chef in Thailand and we always chitchatted about food and goofy ways to make money.

I studied abroad in Prague in 2000...probably three times a week we would take the tram or walk down the hill to the smaller Bohemia Bagel outpost (not the one off of Old Town Sq) for a tuna melt and some cheap internet surfing. Then we'd take the funicular back up Petrin Hill.
God I miss that place. The chili is pretty good too.

Well, Oneiron, as a Muslim, those fries can appease me anytime. :D

WTF does Nobama's inauguration have to do with "deciding to begin my burger tour of Prague." I can think of hundreds of reasons to begin a burger tour without invoking the Messiah's influence. I want to barf in honor of the Chosen One's inauguration. Puh-leze! Give me a freakin' break.
Of course, Lizzy and her Vassar buddies are proto-typical leftist liberals, getting their euro-weenie indoctrination to all that's bad about America from the Euro libtards who wouldn't know a good burger if it fell into their leftist loving, muslim appeasing, irrelevant laps.

Hey Lizy! I have not seen the words "Bohemia Bagel" in a while; thank you for that. I studied in Prague in college, but all I really remember are that the muffins go half-price after 4 p.m. or so. Down with tomato water, and long live goulash!

Since when is English, spoken by an American, "unaccented."
Try to be more broadminded while traveling.

Bohemia bagel, at least in the winter of 2003-2004, did make a very nice hash brown. that's also where i discovered the joy of a bagel and cream cheese with lettuce and tomato on it.
However, i think the reason most expats make their way to bohemia bagel (besides the wireless internet access) is not the bagels themselves; it's because it is one of the few places in prague where you can get a decent cup of American-style coffee.

Try the chicken avocado sandwich, it's much better than the burger!
