Pre-5K race menu option during a heat wave

As rewarding as any charity 5K run can be, the current heat wave that we have in the East Coast has me a little worried of this evening's race. Any thoughts on a good pre-race snack/meal to help me stay focused and maintain my endurance and energy level despite the 90+ temperatures that we are facing.
