Kenji -- sounds like you have oral allergy syndrome -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_allergy_syndrome -- I have it too, similar reactions but milder, soy milk absolutely the worst, jicama pretty bad too the only time I tried it. Has to do with the proteins -- heat causes them to denature, so cooked or processed fruits don't cause the problem.
