What makes a 'Celebrity Chef'?

someone who became famous because of food, but no longer needs to cook.

How Far Does Restaurant Loyalty Go?

I would probably give them a second chance, but I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you what happened to my BF. He used to frequent a bakery in Park Slope and for some reason one day, he got sick after eating a pastry there. A few weeks later he decided to go back, because he thought there was a possibility it wasn't the pastry that got him sick. Of course he got sick again. Not sure if you want to risk it, but I agree with bravian. You should let them know because the sickness may coincide with a new prep guy, new vendor, etc...

Rachael Ray's Burger Bash

I'm definitely down with a national burger cook off in NYC. Now what do we need to do? Online petition, sponsors? Whatever it is, let's get this started PRONTO!

$3.59 Caviar at Ikea

i've actualy tried both, the black and the orange. if you expect $3.59 caviar, you won't be disappointed. otherwise stay clear of the caviar and stick to the chocolate covered toffees. i don't think i'll ever buy the caviar at ikea again. sometimes nothing is better than something.

Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks

kimchi pizza! they used to have it at a pizzeria on roosevelt in flushing when i was little. oh man was it good. imagine a thin slice with kimchi (crunchy, spicy, and bit charred from the oven). the place wasn't even owned by koreans, they were italian! hilarious. i went back a few mos ago, the place is gone now, so sad.

The 'Mate Latte' Rhyme, Fated or a Coffee Shop Travesty?

guayaki is also my brand of choice. although recenlty i notice the tea bags are not as well maufactured and the tea bags rip if you're not careful pulling them from the envelopes (a lot of times the edges are pressed in with the envelope seams). in any case, i love yerba mate after a day of gorging. it helps me digest and settles my stomach while being tasty all at the same time.

Served: Not My Party

Yes, it does all seem very condescending. Once at Nougatine, my guest felt ill suddenly and when we asked a waiter walking by where the rest room was, he just stared at us as if it was beneath him to respond and walked away. Meanwhile my friend was sitting at the table on the brink of passing out. Luckily, a waitress came by and helped us out.

As for calling someone tacky for asking to take home leftovers, I think it was pretty tacky for the owner to insult a patron of his restaurant.

Hostess Fruit Pie, One Less Thing For Me to Eat Before I Die

i've had the hostess fruit pie when it was one pie and let me tell you robyn, you are not missing much. instead of 1 big craptastic pie, now you get 2 smaller craptastic pies. just looking at the pies make me want to barf.

North Korea Develops Hunger-Delaying Noodle

I don't believe Kim Jong-Il cares to create anything nutritious for his people. If the North Korean government did care, they would not have let 0.5-3.5 million people die of starvation in the late 90's, all the while promoting the benefits of eating only 2 meals a day instead of 3 meals to the starving masses. The people were also told the rest of the world was starving and that North Korea was actually doing better because of the leadership of their "great" leader.

It is rumored that North Korea is undergoing another bout of severe famine. I would not be surprised if this "nutritious noodle" story was an attempt by the government to fool the people into thinking they are less hungry than they actually are. And by the way, Kim Jong-Il should probably cut back on the noodles.

A Guide to Cheap Snacks in Manhattan's Chinatown

What a thorough post! I've never been to Wah Fung, but I'll definitely be going now. The roast pork looks crazy good. Thanks for the tip. As for Lunch Buffet, I always skip the soup they give you. It's usually cold and tastes like dishwater.
