Indianapolis: Asaka Japanese
My birthday is coming up, and I'd like to eat an amazing dinner to celebrate. I've heard good things about Asaka Japanese restaurant--have you been? How was it?
Tahini: in hummus, in dressings, in sauces: delicious!
Man, maybe I really will have to buy that hand blender... Well done, Kenji! Another impressive technique.
Sesame chicken--yummy
The Cooks' Illustrated Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe (published May 1, 2009; available for free on their website) is nearly perfect. It's absolutely my favorite chocolate chip cookie--fresh from the oven or a few hours old (they never last longer than that!). People love these cookies. The browned butter really sends them over the top. I even sent step-by-step photo instructions in a care package for a baking-challenged friend so she could reproduce the results. Delicious.
Nothing too original: lamb stew with mashed potatoes
My brownies
Milky Way Dark
Nothing original here: tiramisu, and none of the frozen pre-fab stuff, please! Also, no Cool Whip or similar--real, homemade, traditional for me!
Raspberry Tart
Fudge for Christmas Gifts
sausage is my favorite
Brownies--I'm known for them!
Another vote for hummus, preferably with homemade pita.
Coffee-Chocolate Layer Cake with Mocha-Mascarpone Frosting from bon appetite--yum
Rice Krispy Treats, with melted semisweet chocolate on top
It's not really a meal, but the most blog-worthy thing I've made lately were the chewy brownies: so chocolatey and delicious.
Pete's a Pizza by William Steig
@square_pie: have you ever tried Cook's Illustrated's Foolproof Pie Crust (the one with vodka in it)? I've always struggled with pie crust as well, but this one turns out perfectly every single time. It comes together easily in a food processor, rolls out like a dream, and bakes up delicious, tender, and flaky...EVERY TIME! It was developed by Kenji, before he came to us at Serious Eats, and it was good work indeed. Try it!
Chicken Vindaloo with fresh fruit on the side
CI's new sugar cookie recipe--better than I previously thought a sugar cookie could be.
Butternut Squash Soup--it's like autumn in a bowl.
My honeymoon in San Francisco: wonderful companion, wonderful food.
My wedding cake: carrot cake with cream cheese frosting--the best ever.

A close relative is driving from Portland to visit me and has offered to bring along any thing I request. So: what should I ask for? The drive is roughly 12 hours. Obviously, food/drink are high on the list, and I want to ask for something that isn't available outside of the Portland area. Maybe some craft beer? I'll welcome your suggestions, so thanks!
