Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
Not a big fan of the fries for most of the reasons others also seem to share. (but love other sweet potatoes)
brooke29: those sound like a wonderful preparations; now just replace the sweet potatoes with regular potatoes, and I'm on board.
cybercita: slamming raisins... wow! might as well slam things like, oh I don't know... maybe coffee, wine, chocolate. You know, nothing important. Raisins, and other dried fruits are crucial. ;-)

"This is the kind of doughnut that makes babies cry."
Ha ha! Boy, I know exactly that doughnut.
However, I sort of disagree about the Breezy Farm Apple Ciders. They are sort of as you describe, but I find them pleasant none the less. I've always considered them something different than an "actual" "real" doughnut. I don't know how to describe it. If I want a "regular" doughnut, I won't buy the apple ciders. But sometimes I like them just as some kind of doughnut "like" confection unto themselves.

Yeah, I don't know what it is; but for a large regional fast food chain, those guys do turn out some mighty tasty burgers. I'm going out there Nov.20. Can't wait.

Hmm. I grew up here, yet never knew of this place. (long long time ago though)
Going back soon. Maybe I'll give it a try. (after I get my fill of In 'n Out)

Cook the Book: Almond Brioche Toast
I really love these, but they can sometimes be hit or miss. Sometimes they can be a little too heavy; a bit soggy. But when they are good, they're great.
Types of Pizza-Crust Eaters
If the crust isn't good enough to eat, than the same holds true for the rest of the pie (in my opinion). Bread is bread. It's either good, or it sucks.
There's a picture a couple stories back (story about packin a pie on the train). Anybody who would leave that crust sitting on their plate needs their head checked.
LOLcat Moments: Reservations Required
Hmm. What's even weirder is that the cat actually looks like Patrick Stewart playing the Maitre D' at L'Idiot in the movie "L.A. Story"

Apples: Take 'Em or Leave 'Em?
Braeburns are good this time of year (not so much other times)
Below is a link to a "Good Food" KCRW (L.A.) podcast.
The podcast starts with the "Market Report" (Santa Monica Farmer's Market), beginning with an interview with an heirloom apple purveyor (pictures too). Interesting, if you're into apples.

Mixed Review: Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread vs. Homemade Pumpkin Yeast Bread
As others have suggested, I don't understand why you didn't do a comparison of Trader Joes Pumpkin quick bread to a homemade pumpkin quick bread?

I have not tried the Boylan diet cola (love their Birch Beers)
That said; cola is SUPPOSED to taste mediciny. (think Compari) Cola originally WAS medicine. Most colas are the furthest thing from what a cola is actually supposed to be. Want a real cola? find a bottle of Fentimans "Curiosity Cola". Mmmm!

Have you ever had them with honey and melted butter? You might feel differently.

In and Out is good, but the long lines look unattractive.
i would prefer Hinanos than in and out. too many kooks at In and Out..
but i do agree, good burgers for the price. the menu is simple and the employees are always hard at work....

One comment I did not see is that, for a diabetic like me, regular potato fries are a no-no (what with the high glycemic index of potatos). However, sweet potato fries are actually tolerable from a blood-sugar perspective. Something to keep in mind...

Oh, and I should mention, that is indeed a very good looking meat market next door.

Well, I tried to go yesterday, and ripken00's warning is worth heeding. Since it was Monday night (and MNF), they were only serving chili dogs.
So I went to Ebizo's, and had a pretty good burger there instead.

The only time I have ever had sweet potato fries was at the Galaxy Cafe in Austin, TX. They were absolutely wonderful. I guess you just have to find a place that knows the secret.

Take the "greasy-ones" home and re-do 'em! Sprinkle with something delicious such as rosemary and a bit of garlic OR, make them into a curry...I hate waste!

LOVE LOVE LOVE sweet potato fries!!!
Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
Most sweet potato fries I've had have been boring and forgettable. But there is this one bar....
My boyfriend and I will go here for lunch on occasion, and usually end up just splitting an order of their Boudreaux fries. What are Boudreaux fries, you ask? Copied straight from the menu: "Sweet Potato fries with Roast Beef Debris, topped with Bleu Cheese Crumbles, sugar & spice pecans and golden raisins."
And Oh. These are so incredible.
Dear AHT: Ercole's Cheeseburger at Manhattan Beach, California
I hate places that give you potato chips instead of fries with your burger.
Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
YUM - I love sweet potato fries! I've only had them at a tapas place by my house and they have always been crisp on the outside, tender on the inside and definitely not greasy. They serve them with a great dipping sauce too! My only complaint is that the serving size is way too small for people to share, think McD's average size fries serving...
Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
I love sweet potato fries! I do agree that if you bake them (I like to use a wire rack on top of a cookie sheet, toss the wedges or fries in a little olive oil, kosher salt, pepper and garlic powder) they tend to turn out best (in my opinion). The garlic and pepper gives them more of a bite that might alleviate any excessive sweetness. Paired with a spicy mayo dipping sauce these fries are absolutely delicious!
I just recently had sweet potato chips and these were definitely better than their white-potato counterparts...they weren't greasy, very lightly seasoned and SUPER crispy. I think I am going to try to make chips next...

I love sweet potato fries! If they are done right, they can be very crisp, not greasy or burnt.
Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
Maybe I have been lucky in having sweet potato fries that are hot and crisp, not soggy and greasy. But I like my fries with vinegar, and sweet potatoes have that extra bit of flavour that stands up to it better than white potatoes. So if you get a chance, make proper fries at home, using sweet potatoes, and sprinkle with malt or cider vinegar and salt. THEN decide.
When I eat out, I pretty much never get fries of any kind because I don't like them. But I do like them when I make them, because I get them right.
Another idea, as HelloChris suggested - do them in the oven. Cut the sweet potatoes into frylike shapes, toss with just a smidge of oil, and bake in a very hot oven until the insides are soft. When I do them this way I sprinkle with chili powder (sometimes homemade) for a lovely extra punch. Or bake them plain and sprinkle with chili-salt instead of plain salt when they are out of the oven. Not quite the same crispy as fried, but pretty good and fine for those wanting less oil in the diet.

I prefer sweet potato chips myself. With Guacamole as served at West End Tavern in Boulder, CO.
Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
1) Make them YOURSELF.
2) Make them in an oven.
I love them.
Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
I've never cared for SP fries but at my cafe we make sweet potato hash browns which are quite yummy (and mega popular). We shred them and dust them with flour, cinnamon, and ceyanne pepper.
Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
I LOVE great sweet potato fries!! I make my own sometimes, cut fairly thin, and either fried in grapeseed or peanut oil, or coated with one of those and baked in a hot oven. I 'garnish' them with ginger salt, which I make by grating fresh ginger into sea salt, tossing about for a bit, then sprinkling on the fries. I make mashed sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving...(I can't ABIDE the nasty marshmallow ones) by baking the potatoes unwrapped in the oven till soft, cooling slightly till I can peel them, adding a bit of butter, fresh orange juice, orange zest and grated ginger and freshly ground white pepper. I also LOVE them simply baked as Soigne outlines above. I add a sprinkling of freshly ground pepper to finish them off. I eat them at least twice a week during the 'season'. They go so well, however they are prepared, with pork and chicken and any kind of barbecue. I'll even have a large one baked as an entire meal. I don't understand anyone who doesn't like sweets, probably they got turned off by the marshmallow goop served at many Thanksgiving dinners. (Kinda like how people hate Brussels Sprouts, since they've only ever had them over-boiled from frozen.)
Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
hmmm, I never really thought about it, but Adam, you're right, I've never had a batch of great sweet potato fries. I have had sweet potato chips that were pretty crunchy, but again nothing I crave...not like a hot order of frites served in a paper cone.

I'm with ya! I grew up there too. I loved Criterion Burgers at the Criterion and the burritos at La Via, but never heard of Ercoles. I guess I need to!

Most excellent. I'm in El Segundo on the 21st, and I usually go to Manhattan Beach for dinner. This might be the place.
Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
I never liked them until I had them CRISPY at a restaurant in Longmont Colorado. YUMMMM. Now I can't get enough. Prefer them to regular fries even!!
Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?
Flaccid, insipid, never crunchy on the outside, never fluffy on the inside sweet potato fries. It is such a disservice to the sweet potato.
It just wants to be baked in its own skin until its spitting sugar and then given a little pat of butter.

@linghuey: I think we can reach across the aisle on this one.
