Cook the Book: 'Baking Unplugged'
My funniest disaster was also one of the messiest. One afternoon my husband said he wanted me to make him some cookies. I said ok, as long as he was willing to help. We get all the ingredients out and I asked him if he wanted to measure or stir (we had a hand mixer). He said that he'd stir of course so I started putting in the ingredients little by little. I turned around to get the pans from the other counter and as I turned around he asked me if I thought it was about mixed all the while lifting up his hand with the mixer still in it. Before I could yell stop, cookie dough was going all over the backsplash, on the counter and on him. The look on his face at that point was complete horror realizing what was happening which just set me off with a case of the giggles. He did manage to turn off the mixer at that point and we both began the process of cleaning up the entire time with me laughing. That's something that I still laugh about it today and always joke with him about whether he wants to bake something with me.

I like make a spinach dip and put it in a bread bowl. You can use the insides of the bread to put around to use for dipping or alternate it with some scoop type chips. It gives a nice presentation and it seems to always go over well.

My great-grandmother used to make this wonderful peach cobbler. Homeade crust and all! It was just to die for so as I got older I started to help grandma out making it and learned out. Nope...I haven't outgrown it and have family that loves it as much as I did growing up.

I think I'm also in agreement with quite a few on here about her Mac & Cheese. I absolutely LOVE it and so does my family.

When I met my husband all I heard about were these Peanut Butter Cookies that his mother used to make. A few years ago my sister-in-law gave me the recipe and I've been making them ever since. They truly are yummmmy....but of course we are all peanut butter lovers in house. Chocolate with do, but can't beat peanut butter...
Cook the Book: 'Fat'
Definitely pie crust....learned from my great grandmother and still making the same way she taught me.
Cook the Book: 'The Modern Baker'
My biggest baking disaster was when my husband was feeling acceptionally helpful and offered to help me make some cookies. As he began mixing the dough in the bowl I was getting something out of the cabinet. He asked me to see if it looked ok and as I came over he lifted up the handmixer without thinking and batter went all over me, all over the wall and some even hit the ceiling.
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'The Saucier's Apprentice'
When I met my husband one of the first things I told him was not to expect a domestic goddess and that I hoped he liked just the basics for cooking because that was about all I could do. I honestly don't think he believed me until one evening when I was boiling some water for pasta and I forgot about it because I got to doing other things. Needless to say that when I finally noticed was when he noticed that there was an empty pot on the stove and the inside was chipping off. After the initial shock wore off he turned to me and said that he now believed me and would I like to go out to dinner.
Cook the Book: 'A16 Food + Wine'
The most memorable for me was a Pino Noir that I was sipping while watching a movie with my then boyfriend who is not much of a traditionalist turned to me and asked if I'd like to call my mother and tell her we were getting married. My reply back was yes, but I'd like to finish my glass of wine first which I promptly drank rather quickly.
