Citi Field Catch of the Day, Beware!

what a surprise!!! ....as usual the general blogosphere public looks for the volume not the quality.. i hope you two bloggers do not go to esca where perfect fish is served RAW but in small portions too i am hoping chef pasternack keeps it going out there at citifield for a long time, it is about time real food is served at a new york city sports arena, that these hicks complain makes me want to go even more often, even if i am a yankee fan

I got sick at Catch of the Day... and didn't like the offerings at all.
http://feistyfoodie.blogspot.com/2009/05/citi-field-catch-of-day-toscarinos.html

Did I go on an off day or did someone spit in my food or WHAT? The 'chowder' was thin and basically melted butter with a bit of broth. The fish sandwich was horrid...

@mmmmonica - i guess the vendors have to pay rent for having their concessions to citi.... i don't know. i just resent their name on old shea.

Mets fans can get amazing sushi from Daruma in the World's Fare market. It's over by the right field gate, or toward 2nd base from the "Taste of the City."
Personally, everything I've eaten from Catch of the Day was fantastic.
pooch, you don't seriously think CitiBank has anything to do with the food, do you?

Wow, I thought ballpark food was expensive here in Houston! I can say that Minute Maid has introduced garlic fries (which my hubby says are GREAT in SF), and sliders to their menu. 3 sliders, fries, and a pickle for $11 isn't bad at all - they make them as burgers and hot dogs.

My favorite at Minute Maid is still the chicken fajita wrap for $7. That, or, I like the visiting team recipe as well. For the Padres' series it was fish tacos, and for another (it was Chicago or LA - I've been to too many games already so I can't remember!) it was a foot long dog with cherry tomatoes and relish. YUM.

If only there was international ball here - I'd kill for some sushi! I could die a happy girl...

The clam and corn chowder is amazing. I have yet to see a lobster roll that's small. Here's a picture of one AFTER the eater picked out some of the meat:

david, i have tried the clam & corn chowder and it was delicious - great value too!

i had the lobster roll with my uncle, a successful chef for over 20 years, who was appalled at the poor quality lobster meat and the stale bun. for $18, he said, they should put some tail meat and really make an effort to have fresh fish.

batman, wow.

what do you expect from "citi" -- they're being bailed out, they can't afford to put anything on the roll..... what an insane rip-off.

Holy crap! $18 for a Lobster Roll? I've been out of the big cities way too long, I guess.

@ batman, your judgment is way too harsh for these "hicks". Complaining that there is not enough filling in a sandwich is a criticism of a poorly made sandwich (bad filling to bread ratio), not a complaint about portion size. z911empire also presented perfectly legit reasons why the lobster roll was bad besides the size. No need for all the negativity.

Chewing the Fat: Batali and Bourdain on Baby Food

Anthony Bourdain has children? That's got to be a mistake on somebody's part.

:D

"Her parents" are the mother's parents. They're italian.

"her parents ship it over"..... wha?? Did Tony adopt or does he refer to himself in the third person?

From Serious Eats

Chewing the Fat: Batali and Bourdain on Baby Food

Having savored his books and thoroughly enjoyed his shows, I wish more media people had his experience and the chutzpah to tell it like he does. If it is arrogance it is well earned and justified.

Chewing the Fat: Batali and Bourdain on Baby Food

I didn't know what to make of Bourdain until I saw his show No Reservations (Beirut Episode). They were stuck in Beirut with some type of conflict going on around them and it was very scary/intense to say the least. After seeing this vulnerable side of him, he made a fan out of me. Sure he can still be arrogant at times but I'm sure we've met worse in our day to day lives.

Bourdain makes me want to hurl. I cannot begin to understand why I so dislike him (it must be something more than his insufferable arrogance), but I do. I'm with whoever said they're rather hear Batali talk.

And Tony will just melt and go along with it. "Say, these frozen tofu nuggets aren't half bad!"

@vox8ight, lol, you know that's coming, a britney spears-loving, tofu nugget eating, card-carrying PETA member...in opposition to her father's strong *ahem* opinions.

My daughter is 2...and i'm pretty proud of her palate (sp?) - she loves sushi, cooked spinach, dim sum...she's even tried chicken feet!

@thegoch, I love it! "What's that you've got?" "It's a bag of Chicken McNuggets you old hippie-punk poseur!"

From Serious Eats

Chewing the Fat: Batali and Bourdain on Baby Food

Tony is in for a rude awakening once his daughter gets a taste of a Ring Ding or a Twinkie as a youngster, not to mention when the child hits the rebellious ages and anything that is opposite to her upbringing will have unavoidable appeal. Have a nice day!

From Serious Eats

Chewing the Fat: Batali and Bourdain on Baby Food

My 4 year old is pretty adventurous (raw fish, lamb, curries, etc.), but there are still those days when she really wants boxed mac and cheese or those dreaded mcnuggets (for which i can 'thank' a relative for introducing her to). I think it's inevitable when they hit school age to want that kind of stuff. I remember seeing Mario Batali talk to someone (Maybe Gwyneth on the Spain show?) about his kids only wanting hot dogs at a certain age. It's awful for folks who like their food, but it happens (and it sucks)! :)

Baby food is bad for the babies. A lot of chemicals. Feed yo kids natural ish. Just mush it up yourself
