SE Staff Picks: Our Favorite 4 PM Snacks

It is BY LAW for me to have tea at 4 p.m. It's the South-Asian-Anglo influence that I can't shake no matter where I am. At home, on the road, at an office - paper cup, proper tea cup, coffee mug, styrofoam, Starbucks, hot weather, cold weather, rainy weather, in the dead heat of summer - but I HAVE to have my tea with a little snack. Usually it's something sweet, maybe just a cookie, if I'm in the mood for salty I might make a simple tea sandwich. But the tea is non-negotiable.

Loved the article! Asparagus at 4 pm, God I wish I could be that healthy.

Kitchen Rebels

Definitely a rebel. For instance, when I'm seasoning with salt while I'm cooking, I don't automatically add black pepper with it. I don't think black pepper belongs on everything like almost all the TV chefs demonstrate. It's got a strong flavor! But hey, what do I know. In my kitchen, I do what I want. And I crack my eggs wherever I please.

Japanese Snacks: Milk Candies

I want to adopt the bovine Hello Kitty. Please.

The Serious Eats Guide to Food Photography

Kenji - you rock. Of all the food photography guides I've read - this was the most concise and helpful and easy to understand, especially for a relative beginner who just needs enough info to start exploring and practicing - which as someone else wrote is also a crucial factor in taking good photos. I printed this and keep referring to it now as I explore and hopefully expand upon my virtually non-existent photography skills. Thanks a million.

A Guide to UK Chocolate Candy

I second the Smarties! Oh man, childhood memories.

A Guide to UK Chocolate Candy

I agree with the Crunchie bar people - it does NOT taste like a Butterfinger. Also Kit Kats were the best when Rowan & Tree still had ownership - anyone remember when the wrapping was a piece of tin foil, a piece of parchment and then the red paper covering with the label? Man - those Kit Kats were out of this world.

The Serious Eats Guide to Food Photography

The thing is, food blog photography is completely different from professional food photography. Most of the time, we're working in low-light situations where we neither have the time nor the ability to set up lighting rigs or even an off-camera flash, for that matter. Over the years, we've figured out the best ways to get presentable photos out of just about every situation food blogging will put you in. We've compiled the most important tips here. More
