July 4th weekend, what are you making?

my brother, dad and I are making a our own pastrami, pork ribs with a bourbon/peach bbq sauce, a couple chickens in our smoker and on the grill.

Various grilled and not grilled sides.

Caramel Apple Pie Cookies
Lavender Peach Ice Cream
Lemon Ice Cream with a Blueberry swirl.

At some point for breakfast, red velvet pancakes.

What's the story behind your SE screen name?

bakerman was what all the grad students from asia called me when I was getting my bachelors degree in Bakery Science. 5185 is my birthday. I use it on everything because it symbolizes me being born to be a baker. :)

Dairy Queen's Blizzard Turns 25

@seikel: PEANUT BUTTER CRUNCH!!!! FTW!!! Best Blizzard every! When they stopped making it and new people took over our DQ I couldn't even get them to custom make it. That's when snickers took over for me. I like putter snickers bars in the freezer anyway, so mixed with ice cream great!

Also growing up in a small town, and regulars of the DQ, we knew the workers very well and vice versa. They used to love when my dad would come in because he would come up with something different everytime and it was like a challenge for them to try and make it.

when to freeze bread dough?

If you want to freeze your dough, make sure and increase your yeast slightly. Also use chilled water so that your dough temperature is pretty cold. This way it will keep the yeast less active and will freeze faster. Less harsh on the yeast.

Foodie gifts gone right/wrong. What did you get for the holidays?

best foodie christmas present ever from my parents this year! My brother and I got a whole side of beef to share and break down together. I had said a lot this year that I want to learn butchering from my dad as he and my grandfather have a combined 80+ years of experience. So at my families grocery store, hanging in the meat cooler is half of a cow dry aging perfectly for 4 weeks waiting for my brother and I to start cutting away.

i saw in an article on here the other day a shout out to Blue 13's lobster pizza in Chicago. Looked fantastic to me and I would love to try it as soon as I get a chance to!
