Gravy for Smoked Turkey?
We'll be smoking our turkey this year with a Cameron's Stovetop Smoker, and I'm wondering about the gravy. Has anyone made gravy from smoked bird drippings before? I'm afraid it will be too smokey tasting.
This recipe sounds so easy - and I LOVE linzer torte!!! I'm very excited about my Friday night plans.
We used to eat out several nights a week very late and we'd close the place down. At first we'd feel weird being there so late, watching the staff all getting ready for their end of night feast, and then one night they seated us in the same row as the staff table and we pretty much joined them for the rest of the days we lived in that neighborhood. It was a lot of fun and we got great food and were always able to order off the menu - they'd even tell us - oh - such and such isn't on the menu, but we can make it if you'd like.
We love the pepperoni pizza - we call it crack - as in - I want crack for dinner tonight. It has that wonderfully addictive heat to it (I've begun to wonder if they have schezuan peppercorns in it). I could leave all their other pizzas - but the pepperoni is a guilty pleasure in this house.
We had potato leek pizza this weekend. Olive oil, crushed red peppers, thinly sliced par boiled red potatoes, leeks caramelized with garlic, and a blend of swiss and gruyere with a sprinkle of rosemary and herbs de province. YUM
Love the number pie!!!
Isn't the KFC Bucket hatted chicken dance in penance to a bet Kenji took during his Vegan journey?
I find Trader Joe's Super B Complex, water and advil to be pretty good at banishing the HO monster.
Carrie - yes, it's been EXTREMELY mild this winter. But the summers are really the killer.
True story: I work for a large national company, we created a video in a contest with our co-workers in VA and AZ - it was July. Our video won the contest, but then the VA and AZ teams cried foul since we were all wearing sweaters, scarves, down coats - they just knew that we'd made the video in the winter and had tricked them into the contest.
When I had to commute to the city (I'm in the east bay) there were usually only a few weeks of the year that I had to remove my wool liner due to the arctic winds blowing on Market St.
Lovely story!!! Thanks
@Will - I had noticed a bit more about product in the food reviews - love your writing. Find myself reading bits to my husband every time.
@mprize - you must be a new Will reader - that's the point. He actually started talking about the product 6 paragraphs sooner than usual.
I've been reading that you should strain the yogurt to remove the excess moisture creating a smoother creamier product - with the other ingredients, is this less necessary?
whoa - this disappeared from the main page - only link is from FB.
So excited to find out that there is a good ice cream made without eggs. And there is a book!!! YAY!!! Hubs can't eat eggs so that kills most rich ice creams for us.
Mocha Almond Fudge - love it and who can resist that flavor combo (I know I can't), especially if it's made into a mud pie - now that's heaven.
Made this yesterday and OMG the best most perfectly cooked, yummiest pork chops we've ever had in our lives. So glad we spent the money on this device, I see weekly usage.
Oh and the spice rub and bbq sauce were the BOMB!!! We reduced the hot sauce a bit based on our tasting.
Thank you Kenji!!!!
LOL re: all the "real" pizza comments. I had a college roommate that would call anything not within the realm of round, sauce, cheese and toppings - food on dough. We loved our food on dough!!!
YAY!!! YAY!!! YAY!!! I was searching for pizza bianca recipe in December and was blown away that SE did not have one. So excited to be able to try this.
Yes Omega 3 via algae - we call them pond scum pills ;o). Hubs is allergic to fish and Omega 3 helps with his rosacea (it was either the pond scum or reduction of wine). We use Ovega 3 and have been very happy with it.
the wonderfully simple pan loaf bread my grandmother used to make - mine never tastes as good as hers did.
Happy New Year!!! This past year with SE has been a boon to my family. I'm actually cooking!! Not enough yet, because my husband is such a wonder in the kitchen - but SE is helping me get creative and get in there. Love you all!!!
Made it tonight - it was delicious!!! A bit hit with our 7 year old as well!!!
@Kenji and @CCC - thanks!!! I'll try some soy sauce since it's a staple around here.

The Best Chili Ever. Is there chocolate involved? Hard liquor? Marmite? Yes, yes, and yes. More
I know, I know—sun-dried tomatoes and feta cheese is so 1989. I hope you trust me because this barbecue side is worth the trip down memory lane. It doesn't suffer from the same dry pasta affliction so many other non-mayo... More
Wow - excited to know what that part of deliciousness is called. YUM
