I've read this and I'm not impressed. While she does come up with an impressive and esoteric list, there's practically zero information on the two most important aspects: how you can actually get one of these jobs and how much they pay. Personally, I found it a little lazy in that regard. Your mileage may vary.

This is going to sound lame, really lame, but my mentor would have to be my best friend Rick. After a childhood spent devouring bland food that had neither salt nor pepper applied to it, let alone any spices, we felt like we were moving from black and white to color when we emptied the contents of our spice cabinet into a batch of ground meat for hamburgers about fifteen years ago. That was my culinary awakening.

i felt the same way about blue hill at stone barns. the foods were simple and good, but not insanely delicious. also, after having the three hour marathon of a meal, which i enjoyed, i dont feel like i ever need to go back. (neither does my wallet.)

I'm not sure why you're feeling so nitpicky, atom 12, because the post was fantastic and the author definitely didn't seem to be flaunting herself to me. Plus, it probably isn't very widely known yet that she has a book coming out so she was simply attempting to validate the fact and how she knew, since when I googled "fat witch cookbook" or "patricia helding cookbook" nothing came up.
Also-- These look fab. Next time I'm in the area I'll have to get one!

What we call "Pork Chop Glop." Brown chops on both sides, cover with canned chicken gumbo soup, cover, simmer 30 minutes. (Reduce the "sauce" if desired.) Serve sauce (or "glop") over rice. How easy is that?
