Not that it even compares, but in Jersey City we have a combo Pizzeria/Video Store and I tried it the other day- not bad.

Homemade funfetti cupcakes...

Thanks guys
Actually I experimented yesterday and the sprinkles I bought bled so much the cupcakes kind of turned purple... Maybe I just used sprinkles that bleed color ridiculously quickly and the box mix sprinkles don't or something. So I used some blue food coloring and make them purple and blue swirl curcakes. Pretty cool for a test-batch, even if it's not funfetti.

I am going to bite the bullet and make box-cake cupcakes and decorate them awesomely. I may even do the cupcakes in layers of swirl and funfetti to make them ultrafun. Thanks everyone for your input!

Campo: Does Morningside Heights Finally Have A Good Contemporary Italian Restaurant?

I work in the area and I'm desperate for something delicious and not-too-heavy for lunch. Too bad about Campo, I was considering heading over there at some point soon. V&T is awesome- but not for lunch.

The Next Food Network Star Season Finale

I don't think they picked Aaron JUST because of his race. But, it wouldn't be surprising if that did play a part in the decision making.

Yes, the food network has been pretty damn white until this year and yes, it's good that they're diversifying (it's a shame it took them this long),

But in terms of winning this show, it was still a huge shock to me that Aaron got it. And it's a shame that the other two contestants are losing out on this opportunity either way. Honestly, I think food network could get away with giving all three of them shows. Too bad though

The Next Food Network Star Season Finale

Honestly I thought Lisa and Adam were quite obviously better than Aaron- but as soon as they let him slide into this show (remember he should have easily been kicked off in Vegas due to his poor food and poor performance) it was obvious that this competition was being handed to him.

Blerg!

Ashamran: you're right about FN pushing the multicultural demographic- it's a shame that the other two contestants had to be sacrificed for this. Aaron was good but definitely didn't deserve to win

Hi I'm Ashley. I'm a 23 year old Library and Information Science student who currently lives in Jersey but will (hopefully) be moving to Brooklyn soon.

I love baking! Cupcakes and cookies are my fav. I think anything lemon-flavored is delish! I generally just like to cook when I have the time (which isn't as often as I'd like)...

Btw.. love the site!

Outdoor Dining in New Jersey

Definitely try Paisanos in Rutherford on Park Ave. I haven't been there in a few years, but as far as I remember their food was great.

I did a Google search and apparently they're BYOB- ( again, it's been a while since I've been there so you may want to call and check the details)

Here's some info:

I like to get it if I am hungry and don't want to eat something with 500+ calories and tons of fat. I like their tall latte and oatmeal combo.

SE users: please introduce yourselves.

I'm lamora and I live in the Central Valley of California. Half British, half Latina (air force brat). I spent most of my early years in England, until transferring back to the states when I was 17. I married a latino, who had never had anything but straight mexican foods, birria, tacos de cesos ( don't make me tell you what that is) and believe me, our first date dinner of roast beef, mash, brussels & gravy (which I cooked) was washed over with a slurp of his smuggled in hot sauce!!! I was mortified...but you know what...22 years later, he has grown to appreciate different foods. I am from a family of 8 and while in English school, took cookery lessons since age 9. We grew up cooking homey, hearty meals for the family and there are quite a few "twists" on the food my Brit mum tried to make for my dad back in the States...Chile on top of mashed potatoes!! (try it, it's delish!!) Anyway...I love this blog and hope to get to know you all!!!!
