For all the Chocoholics!

Although I'll take chocolate any way I can get it, my favorite way to eat it is in a decadent, gooey, fudgy dessert.

My least favorite way to eat chocolate: With the wrapper still on.

Have You Tried the Wendy's Breakfast Menu?

I once had breakfast at Wendy's. What they called breakfast was really burned bacon on a hamburger bun topped with egg and cheese. It came with some salty, chewy tater-tot like things. I think I'll stick to IHOP.

The World's Easiest Homemade Donuts

I've made doughnuts out of canned biscuits before and to me it didn't taste like doughnuts. It simply tasted like fried canned biscuits rolled in cinnamon sugar.

I *did* eat it as a kid...and I never stopped!

Little Debbie cakes, ramen noodles, fried bologna sandwiches, hot dogs, Chef Boyardee ravioli, Life cereal, Breyers coffee ice cream, and tater tots to name a few. Had to give up Pop Tarts. Way too sweet for me now.

Do You Have Any 'Once In A Wifetime' Recipes?

I'm not married but if I were, the one food that would probably get my husband banished from the house would be grits. I absolutely HATE them. The smell makes me physically sick and the sight of someone eating them makes me even sicker.

Is the Customer Always Right?

There is a big difference between paying customer and dinner guest. If I'm a guest in someone's home, I eat what's being served then I say "thank you" and go home. I expect the same of my dinner guests.

However, If I'm giving up my hard earned money for a meal at a restauarant, I expect to get what I order. If I order a steak cooked medium rare, then I want my steak served medium rare. I will not hesitate to send an overcooked or undercooked anything back to the kitchen but I am always polite when doing so. If a restaurant cannot or will not accommodate me, then I'll take my business elsewhere. It's as simple as that.

When dealing with the public, restaurants and/or chefs have to be able to make reasonable adjustments. All the "diva" chefs out there who refuse because they think they are compromising their craft will soon be out of business.

How do you tell people their food could be better?

I sell baked goods at the local farmers market to supliment my income. Before that, my best friend choked down a lot of pieces of very bad cake from me with a smile. With time, I got better at it and so will your friend. Like it or not, baking is an exact science. You can't make substitutions without compromising taste and texture. Products that are vegan, sugar free, fat free, gluten free, etc., are always going to taste different than products made with sugar, flour, and butter.

If a friend serves me something that I don't care for and asks how it is, I smile and say "Thank you for sharing this with me but this is an aquired taste and I guess I haven't aquired it yet." Just because I don't like it doesn't mean no one else will either. If they don't ask, I say nothing.

Once your friend learns how foods are supposed to taste, she'll make adjustments. In the meantime, cook with her sometime, offer recipes, and let her sample something you made. Continue to eat what your friend prepares. She's excited about it and wants to share it with you. But have plenty of antiacid tablets handy. :)

Have you ever just been completly insulted preparing a meal?

No one has ever run out on a meal I prepared but I have all but stopped having people over because my dinner guests either don't answer their invitations or accept and then don't show up. If I invite you to dinner, you can take time to check your schedule but get back to me ASAP. If I don't hear from you, I take that as no. Turn me down or stand me up enough times(usually 2 times)and I stop inviting you.

My guests have never complained about my cooking but those who do will get directions to the nearest McDonald's. It's all about boundaries, what you will and won't put up with. No matter who they are, people will walk all over you if you let them. Set boundaries and make them clear.

To Chardonnay: What your son and his GF did was rude, thoughtless, and hurtful. You should give both of them a piece of your mind. They owe you an apology.

You might be a foodie if....

I'm glad I found this discussion. I thought I was just plain weird. Now I know I'm in good company.

You might be a foodie if:

You wouldn't be caught dead at a fast food chain. You make your own burgers, pizza, fish and chips, etc.

You read cookbooks in bed.

You email recipes to yourself.

You hang around gourmet bakeries just to get ideas.

You plan an all day shopping trip to the farmers' market(weeks in advance).

Picking the right melon takes all day.

You insist on baking a cake for ALL your friends birthdays.

You go shopping for clothes and come home with food instead.

Your motto is "You can never have too much Chocolate".

What kind of chocolate do you prefer?

I've never been one to turn down any form of chocolate. Although I love milk chocolate, especially with peanut butter, my favorite type of chocolate is 60% - 70% dark. I'm a part-time baker so when it comes to my brownies and cakes, I always purchase chocolate with a cocoa content of 75% or higher. As for nibbling, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and Lindor Dark Chocolate Truffles are the two candies I absolutely cannot resist.

6: Grilled in a sandwich with sliced bananas and drizzled with honey.
5: Peanut butter cups/peanut butter cookies.
4: On crackers.
3: Melted and poured over chocolate ice cream.
2: A good old fashioned PB&J sandwich.
1: Straight outta the damn jar!

The simple thing Mom never made

My mom was not the grilled cheese or tuna casserole type. I grew up in the south and she cooked traditional southern food. Fried chicken, collard greens, black-eyed peas, buttermilk biscuits and cornbread, sweet tea, etc. She made cakes and pies from scratch and she and my father kept a garden so we had fresh vegetables in the summer and canned in the winter. She bought hot dogs alot but would never buy the buns. Her idea of pizza was a disgusting mixture of ground beef, onions and barbeque sauce topped with cheddar cheese and baked in a pie crust. She wouldn't buy sugary cereals and only let us have soda on special occasions. Before I left for college, she made sure I knew how to cook. She thought that was something every well brought up southern lady should know how to do.

Sharing--how do you deal with it!

@salpico: You have every right to be upset. What the third couple did was thoughtless and disrespectful. Not only that, the people they invited obviously have no manners or common sense. Because of their behavior, the manager of the restaurant could have asked all of you to leave. I would confront the couple who did the inviting and never hang out with the "add-ons" again. Sorry your evening was ruined.

From Talk

Sharing--how do you deal with it!

I don't mind sharing. Most of the time, I will gladly offer my dinnermates a taste of my food. What bothers me are the ones that think they have the right to help themselves to a second and third taste. If you like it so much, order it. I also have no tolerance for people who snatch food off of my plate without asking. I have a very short fuse and I have blown up at a few people and hurt their feelings for doing that. Bottom line is this: If you want someone to share their food with you, just ask. If they refuse, deal with it and keep your hands to yourself.
