Cook the Book: Pumpkin Baking
Pumpkin pie is the best! I also love pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. Yummy!
Cook the Book: 'The Craft of Baking'
The best dessert I ever had was at a local Columbus restaurant called Marcella's. It was Profiteroles (mini cream puffs) filled with 3 different flavors of gelato and topped with chocolate fudge sauce. It was amazing!
Cook the Book: 'Gourmet Today'
My first cookbook was the Joy of Cooking in paperback. I've since purchased a hard-cover copy, which I still use often. The recipe for banana bread is yummy!
Cook the Book: 'Dishing Up Vermont'
I make chocolate-dipped peanut-butter buckeye candies, which are such a big favorite here in Ohio. Also, Schmidts Sausage House is widely known for their Bahama Mama sausages and monster-sized cream puffs. So Yummy!
Cook the Book: 'Big Bob Gibson's BBQ Book'
The best BBQ I've ever eaten is the briskit at City BBQ here in Columbus, OH. Yummy!
Critic-Turned-Cook Steels Herself for Canning Season with Canning Across America
We started canning a few years ago when we "inherited" my mother-in-law's canning pot & dozens of jars. My husband had seen her make bread & butter pickles, so he started with those, then made the best chunky sweet relish, which has become a favorite of our family. So far this season he's made relish & b-n-b pickles, and I've canned tomatoes, tomato puree, spaghetti sauce, black raspberry jam, red raspberry jam, and peaches. I have lots more tomatoes to can this weekend. I'll make our favorite caramel apple butter soon, too.
Cook the Book: 'Bite-Size Desserts'
I have to admit I love Tim Horten's Timbits, especially the chocolate glazed.
Cook the Book: 'What We Eat When We Eat Alone'
Scrambled eggs or Marie Callender's Chicken Pie
Cook the Book: Easy Gluten-Free Baking
My favorite baked good - that's a difficult question. I guess I'd have to say fresh, crusty bread, still warm from the oven.
Cook the Book: '100 Best Vegetarian Recipes'
I prefer my pasta without meat. One of my favorite pasta dishes is spaghetti tossed with roasted tomatoes, peppers, garlic, onion, and zucchini.
Cook the Book: '660 Curries' by Raghavan Iyer
I've never eaten Indian food, but my son has been wanting to cook some for us for some time. He is actually in India right now for 2 months teaching English to Buddhist nuns.
Cook the Book: 'Canal House Cooking, Vol. 1'
Home grown tomatoes in a Caprese salad.
Olympic Figure Skater Brian Boitano in a New Food Network Series
What is with the Food Network? Did they forget the word FOOD is in their name? I used to Love The Food Network. Now I have no respect for them at all.
Quote of the Day: What Julia Thought of Julie
I read the book and thought it was entertaining, but I can understand why Julia Child didn't like the blog. Julie Powell is very irreverent and does use, in my opinion, way too many 4-letter words. I do want to see the movie, because I love Meryl Streep, and if it's as funny as the book, I'll enjoy it.
Cook the Book: 'Mrs. Rowe's Little Book of Southern Pies'
My most triumphant baking success was the first time I made my mother's recipe for what my family calls nutbread, which is an old Italian family recipe for a sweet yeast bread filled with a ground walnut filling. My mom had passed away that year, so it made me especially proud to be able to carry on her tradition of baking it for our family. I've baked 12 - 14 loaves every year for 25 years now, and it just wouldn't be Christmas without it.
Cook the Book: 'Bobby Flay's Burgers, Fries & Shakes'
My favorite burger is ground chuck seasoned with salt & pepper, cooked medium, topped with American Cheese, lettuce, pickle, onion, tomato, ketchup, mustard, and mayo. Classic.
Dear Food Network, Please Stop
He said many of the things I've been feeling about The Food Network for a long time now. I DVR my favorite shows (the few that are left after they cancelled some of the best), and rarely watch anything else there. They've simply ruined The Food Network, that was once my favorite channel.
Cook the Book: 'L.A.'s Original Farmers Market Cookbook'
I live in Columbus, OH so my favorite Farmer's Market is at The North Market in the Short North (Serious eats featured it at least once). During the spring to fall months, there's a local farmers' market outside, along with the usual shops inside. It's a great place to shop and eat.
Serious Cheese: What Happens When a Curd Nerd Becomes Lactose Intolerant?
My daughter takes a supplement once a day for her lactose intollerance and can have all the dairy she wants. It's called Digestive Advantage, and it's sold at most drugstores. Here's a link to their website: http://www.digestiveadvantage.com/

Layer sauerkraut in a casserole dish, place pork chops on top and season (I use cracked black pepper, garlic powder and smoked paprika), cover with lid or seal with foil, bake in 400 degree oven for 45 minutes. I like to make mashed potatoes with it, but have also just done steamed veggies on the side.
