Hostess Fruit Pie, One Less Thing For Me to Eat Before I Die
when he was growing up, my boyfriend would refer to the lemon flavor as "phlegmon" to most accurately reflect the color and texture of the filling. yum.
New York City's Best Dining Experiences
i have had mixed experiences at babbo. the food is always lovely but the menu rarely changes and lately, the service has been rushed. we had the chef's tasting menu and courses were being served at the same time our plates from the previous course were being cleared!i much preferred the service at felida.

Hostess Fruit Pie, One Less Thing For Me to Eat Before I Die
i just posted a website for ordering the pies but after a little more research i found that the company is bogus. They don't ship anything, they take your money and run. F them for that
DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THAT WEBSITE OK...................
Hostess Fruit Pie, One Less Thing For Me to Eat Before I Die
I used to eat all kinds of the pies as a kid and i loved them. I am 27 now and just recently discovered the delicious nature of the pies. I do agree with you guys about the half moon pies as opposed to the square ones. Don't get me wrong the square ones do the trick, but the whole pie is the daddy of fruit pies. the reason im writing this blog is because i found a website in which you can order the old school half moon pies and have them ordered to your house. This is the website. http://www.freshchocodiles.com/hostess/fruit_pies.html
Hostess Fruit Pie, One Less Thing For Me to Eat Before I Die
I HAVE BEEN READING ALL OF THESE COMMENTS ABOUT WHICH PIE IS BETTER. THE SQUARE ONES OR THE HALFMOONS AND YOU KNOW WHAT THEY ARE ALL GOOD, BUT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.
Hostess Fruit Pie, One Less Thing For Me to Eat Before I Die
I signed up just to comment on Hostess fruit pies. I was eating one a while back and had to ask myself why or if I liked it. The fond memories of them fell away as I evaluated the one I was eating and found that the crust smelled like Play Dough. I don't remember making this connection as a child (which seems odd to me), and I can't help but wonder if the recipe has changed over the years. At any rate I was eating another one tonight and had to stop and see if anyone else thought they smelled like Play Dough (my wife agrees that they do) That brought me here.
It is probably too late to get a reply about this because the last post was from november, oh well.
By the way, my favorites groing up were cherry and apple and were, as was the one I ate tonight, half-moon shaped.
I still find them edible, but will tell my wife not to buy them for me again.
I can't get past the Play Dough thing.
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
ALthough plain cheese is always appreciated, I make 2 special pizzas that my family enjoys. One is buffalo wing chicken with pepper jack cheese, and the other is smoked mozz with sweet sausage and roasted red peppers.
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
Feta cheese with tomatoes fresh out of the garden and kalamata olives sprinkled over a round of dough brushed with olive oil, minced garlic, greek oregano and a thin layer of mozzarella cheese is one of my favorite summer time pies. Even better when it's done on the grill.
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
smoked, thin-sliced ham and green olives...yum
And I make my own pizza at home
Besides plain cheese, the above mentioned are great for a change of pace
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
No pepperone, love it uncooked with cheese & crackers or antipasto, but not on pizza, overpowers everything else. Same thing with bacon. Good sausage meat or plain cheese for me. And don't even start with those cowpies from Chicago!
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
Sausage, chicken and cashew. When the cashews get just a little burn on 'em, oh yeah baby!
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
I agree. Why is pepperoni the default ingredient?? I just think it's the most fun to say. Pepperoni.

As someone from the Northeast who was raised on "real" snack cakes--Tastykakes--I wouldn't consider eating anything by Hostess, Drakes, or Table Talk. That's strictly kid stuff. Tastykake fruit pies are made with real lard, and very few artificial ingredients.
If you've never had a Tastykake fruit pie, you haven't lived. Go to their website and mail order some.

Pepperoni pizza sucks? What can i say... you are are crazy. Seek help. I appreciate the devil's advocacy – the iconoclasm, but... seek help. I'm serious.
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
Phew! Lotsa posts. I'm afraid I've never been particularly fond of pepperoni...I don't hate it, but I wouldn't choose it. Go-to favorite? A combo of cheeses, including provolone and Cheddar with caramelized onions. I have had a fabulous Thai pizza, and by that I mean traditional in form (shape, size of crust, laying down of toppings, etc.) but Thai in flavors (chicken, purple basil, a bit of peanutty flavor, coconutty flavor, a base sauce that'll blow the top of your head off). That was fabulous...could only eat about a slice and a half but for that many bites, it was intoxicating.
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
Whenever I try a new pizza place, I always order "The house special" because I want to see that place's idea of what the ideal pie is.
It is never a plain cheese or pepperoni pie, in my experience.
I almost never order sausage, because I love it and most places use crap.
My favorite place serves a pie with tons of ingredients and I savor every bite for the depth of flavors.
I've lost my taste for chicken, I think
nothing wrong with a fresh whole chicken free-range is a good thing, try to get the biggest which is also the oldest just got some huge thighs bone-in, skin-on from ralphs/kroeger .88/lb fresh not frozen cook 'em alittle longer either cut-up your own from whole or bone-in skin-on to get flavor just dont eat the skin, duh if your worried about it fried chicken just isn't unless its on the bone and with skin-on. when i stew chicken for stock or soup i always skim the fat off all batches after the first full of fat decadent batch. i also save the chicken fat for a few recipes if i'm gonna prepare them soon. i also love prime steak believe it or not costco has USDA prime steaks in a few cuts if you know what to look for i.e. boneless rib-eye, filets, and new yorks (n.w. are too fatty/grissly for my liking) you can get them in the bag too if you ask thats what the big sliding windows are for, i've made friends with the head meat cutters at three costco's they are more than happy to talk meat and help you out you cant beat a whole tenderloin for 8.99/lb either prime or a buck less for choice. go to a small butcher about 15 miles away to get the older larger chickens fresh off the farm. sunday chicken dinner was that old hen who quit laying or that obnoxious rooster that chased the grandkids aroud the yard and peckedd the crap out of you and gradma cooked them up tender and juicy full of flavor just try a little harder to get the good stuff. sometimes (always) the wife and i have a skin feast on a roasted chicken or two when it comes out of the oven its a ceremony we watch it cool make conversation and after ten min's pull all the skin off divide in half say grace and induldge in a crispy roasted skin fest then shred the meat down to the bare bones vacuum-pak the meat for meals to be determined later. we are meat eaters and love it brought back 150lbs of fresh-frozen vacuum-bagged fish filets from alaska wild caught king salmon, halibut, lingcod, yelloweye, snapper, and blackbass all delicious yes it is too much for the two of us our nieghbors are sure glad i fish alot

I felt the same way until I started buying Poulet Rouge chickens - they have them in Whole Foods here in Georgia. They actually taste like chicken is supposed to taste.
See: http://www.joycefoods.com/poulet-rouge-fermier.php
Yum!
I've lost my taste for chicken, I think
Hmmm,
bresse chicken (form France, a protected name like a appelation controle for chickens). Eat one of these and tell me you are still turned of chicken.
These chickens are amazing. The actually have pastureland sown with special weed and flower mixed seed for the chickens to forage in. Fertilizer and chemicals not allowed.
Hmmm..... (dreams away thinking of chickens)
I've lost my taste for chicken, I think
growing up in a not-particularly affluent family where meat HAD to appear at every meal, I put down my fork at 14 and said, "One more piece of this & I'm going to cluck." It's been 40 years, and I'd still have to cluck. Chicken is ~nasty~.

I am from Buffalo, NY - so thanks Machineman! I can only shake my head in bafflement at what the rest of the country puts on their pizza. Indian style? Demi-glaze? Tuna? Really, people? Come to Buffalo and get a good old cheese and pepperoni from Bocce, Bozanna's, Just Pizza, LaNova, or even some corner joint. You'll never want it any other way!
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
tuna and blue cheese.
Try it, love it.
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
i love, but can never find pizza places that will put salami on my pizza. i grew up in massachusetts, and our family was a salami pizza family. it is SO good! now i live in nyc, and i did find one place that put salami on a pizza once, but it only had salami the one time. i had to comment on this, because i really dislike pepperoni, and it only makes me want salami pizza more!
Why Pepperoni Pizza Sucks
Green olives and onion. I ate it first at the insistence of a girl I was dating. She's now a distant foggy memory, but her pizza toppings still provoke the occassional craving.
