I'm a CPA in the Midwest - it's more interesting than it sounds :)

From Serious Eats

Foods We Loved as Kids, Maybe Not as Adults

I'm surprised at all the dorito-haters out there! Do you all dislike nacho cheese now as well (like the Taco Bell kind / Cheez Whiz)? Mmm... artificial cheese is something I haven't gotten over yet.

I do have to agree with the opinions on sugary cereals, fruity candies and Hostess fruit pies, though. We used to call them "fat pies" in high school - don't they have somewhere around 500 calories in them?

From Serious Eats

Mata Hari Absinthe: The First Czech-Bohemian Absinthe on U.S. Market

I'm curious about the "psychotrophic" aspects of the different types of absinthe - does it have something to do with the wormwood?

I am a retired restaurant owner. I was forced to retire because the state purchased one property for the Tollway Authority headquarters, and then another authority bought my other restaurant for construction of a railroad overpass. Since I miss the food business so much, I just put in an 800 sq. ft. kitchen, and cook, eat, and drink all the time with friends and family.

I sizzle, chop and saute for 10 hours a day as head chef for one of Australias most well known celebrity chefs- Bill Granger, in his iconic Sydney restaurant Bills.

My wife and I are retired; we fly fish six months and hang out in Tucson for the other six. We take three mags; Saveur, Flyfishing, and The Economist. We cook mostly Indian/ Asian as we worked in Asian rainforests for 30 years.

In the past, I've always worked in either the entertainment industry (musician) or in Sales. I am now the happy owner of a small little catering company in Nashville. I only work smaller events because I want to keep it focused more on quality and fun. I don't want to turn my love of food into a chore!!

I was a photographer in a past life (early 20s) then became a non-profit administrator (in my 30s) and now am back to doing what I REALLY love--photography again (this time making a living at it) which is my passion (well, that and FOOD!).

I have been doing customer service for about 4 years in the cell phone industry. I work for the evil empire, see the death star logo on our phones.

Before that I was working in Radio and TV, as cameraman and board op. I am a life long media guy, doing photography, videography/film, running sound for the different churches I have belonged to. My degree is in photo journalism.

However I have only been cooking for about 4 years. I was lucky enough to marry an italian girl from NJ. (I'm from OK) She makes the best food of anybody I know, except for some reciepes I make. She is the cook here. I make special dishes, she does the everyday stuff and rocks at it.

Anyway I took up food as a hobby thinking if you're going to have a hobby this is a practical one. Unfortunately it has ruined so much food I used to eat. Amazing how blissfully ignorant you can be about the food you eat until you learn how to make good food.

To all those who blog here and read this and are current or former military, Thank you for your service. You understand better than many how expensive a dish freedom is to serve to our children. Thank You.

Left work as NYC real estate lobbyist to spend life savings on cooking school. Loved apprenticeship in Mendocino but not job in SoCal. Broke my finger going from an interview 2nd day working at hotel scraping old cheese off French onion soup bowls so became non-profit consultant!

I teach cooking when I can and cook for my husband and feed my dog but do not cook for her. My mother just died so I'd like to gather her recipes together with photos and stories and write a book.

From Talk

What do foodies do?

I write news blurbs for a web site a couple of days a week. I say I'm a freelancer, which allows me to think that I have a "real" job, when the bulk of my time is taken up with my two girls and hubby. I also cook for everyone in sight!

I'm an IT professional, used to be a programmer, now project manager. But all I really do is think of food all day, plan dinner, and my blog. I live for the day I escape the industry and work in a kitchen!

Sssh... don't tell anyone ;)

@gastronomeg - all i did for 5 years after college was DJ for a rock station in Toledo!!! I ran a station in college, got an internship, and that internship turned into a job. I also was asst. production director for the Cumulus cluster in T-town for a few years...

UNTIL, i decided to leave it behind and get back to culinary school. Now i'm a pastry cook at a restaurant in Manhattan. See, some foodies actually break down and immerse themselves in it from all sides!!!

Right now I'm not workin' and not lookin'. We'll be relocating soon to Atlanta and I plan to open an as yet undetermined food-related business there. (Which I promise will not be a sit-down restaurant.) We're gaining lots of contacts in the restaurant scene in Atlanta and I'm hoping this will assist me in my efforts.

I've worked in the past as an executive assistant and in professional kitchens. Even when I worked in offices, I always got my feelgoods in the foodie world by catering or baking for restaurants; not to mention throwing big parties for birthdays and other significant days. I also had a gourmet group which was nice because there were six other maniacs like me quelling the cooking jones.

From Talk

I'm an airline ground agent - I work at the ticket counter, lost luggage office and work at the gate.

I also wait tables at a Japanese restaurant.

And because all only pays the bills, I teach a rowing class twice a week for shopping money.

From Talk

What do foodies do?

Due to medical issues I am a part of the shopping, manicure-getting, lunching crowd (not wine drinking due to the afore mentioned issues). I also spend alot of time at my various doctors offices and sleeping. When not doing those things I cook alot for Mr. Panda and the ever STARVING teenage Panda son!!!
