Dinner Tonight: Broccoli Sautéed with Crisp Garlic
I don't have oyster sauce....would fish sauce work? Forgive me if this is a stupid question!

Add me to the list- I've been doing this for 15 years now! I still run into people in my business (bakery/pastry shop) who have never seen it before though and they always think I'm a genius...... I learned it from the owner of a Mexican restaurant I worked at.
Soda- and I was raised in Dallas. My mom, who was from the Oklahoma/Texas border area called it pop or soda-pop.
I am one of the "maybe 1 out of 20 people" who actually drinks that much water- I just really like like water and don't drink sodas or iced tea. It's good for people who have a hard time drinking that much water to know that they don't really 'need" to, but it won't hurt me to continue doing so, right?
FatBastard- I agree about beef selling itself, but a catchy number like "Pork: the Meat of Kings" could only help!
re-read that first article....they inspected 18, but only found violations in 3. The intro you wrote is misleading.
Can't choose a favorite, but for the sake of this post I will say cheesecake.
I like to use sour cream with the same cooking method. I think I should try cream cheese!
Fujis are also my go-to out of season apple, but nothing- I mean nothing- beats a fresh Michigan Honeycrisp. Too bad they are so short lived!
I love the mint pastel M&Ms they used to make.......sadly I have not seen them for years.
I personally love a good everything bagel, but since I'm not a New Yorker my opinion probably doesn't count when it comes to bagels!
BTW, why can't you put lox on an everything bagel? I'm pretty sure I remember doing it and it was delicious...... Don't laugh- I'm not from New York.
Lovely broccoli, but what's the toasted sesame oil for?
I have oyster sauce in my refrigerator, and will make this. I'm always looking for recipes for broccoli. The image is beautiful! Thanks for the recipe!
You can definitely make a similar recipe with fish sauce. My family loves
this one.
@amber - Fish sauce wouldn't have the right consistency. You would have something more soupy, less clingy.
The "vegetarian" tag is a bit misleading...real oyster sauce is decidedly NOT vegetarian. Of course, there are versions of "oyster sauce" that are made with mushrooms and thus vegetarian, so I guess any vegetarians would know to substitute that. Still....
I was taught this trick by my Exec Chef years ago. People are still amazed when I show them how easy it is.
This is good if you're needing slices for presentation purposes. (And new to me!)
But the easiest way to eat a kiwi is just to slice it in half and scoop it out with your spoon.
Growing up in New York, we called it "soder." Moving to Boston (OK, Somerville) in 1988 to be with my girlfriend, I had to get used to "tonic" or "pop."
In 1990, I moved with my sweetie Andi from Somerville to Seattle. Here, it seems to be "pop," "soda" or "soda pop."
I'll have the house fizzy water, as I usually say.
In Texas, we call it coke unless you are ordering and then you request whatever the name of the drink is.
