Olga's Snackers are always a great choice, I don't think you can get them anywhere else.

I'm not sure about New England, but Michigan has some amazing cider mill doughnuts at the Franklin Cider Mill.

That's Nuts: Is Kung Pao Chicken Authentic?

Agreed with BD. Kung Pao chicken in China is definitely where it's at. Although a lot of the components are similar, it tastes quite different in China. I lived in Shanghai for a while and the Kung Pao chicken from neighborhood restaurants were the best. I felt silly telling people that Kung Pao chicken was my favorite Chinese dish in China, but it really is different enough that I didn't feel uncultured in saying so.

What's your favorite food when drunk?

Taco Bell, ramen, street food or an entire pizza. If someone is sober enough to drive, we're going to Taco Bell. If I'm wandering the streets of Japan, it's ramen. If I'm wandering the streets of China, it's street food. Finally, if I'm drunk and have no where to walk and no one to drive me, I want the greasiest pizza that will deliver.

Guide to Sliders in Northern New Jersey

Love the article. I'm originally from Detroit and they have quite the slider scene, including Hunter House, Greene's and Bates. I moved to LA and found that any time I order a slider, I am given a disappointing mini-hamburger. This is how sliders should be: Greene's

where/what should we eat in turkey?

Go to Doy Doy in Istanbul and avoid the Orient Restaurant in Cappadocia. I wrote about all my eating in Turkey on my blog, which you can check out starting here:

Weird Food-Related Collections

I began collecting Fanta cans and bottles when I first started traveling abroad. Similar to Coke, I can find Fanta in every country and in different languages, but what makes it unique is that a lot of countries have flavors that you can't find anywhere else. In Japan they have Melon Fanta, in they have some flavor called Shakara (or at least they did when I was there). I found some crazy blue flavor in Argentina and learned that in the Philippines it's actually called Royal. I have also made it a collection that only I can add to, so if I want a Fanta can from Australia, I'm going to have to go there myself. It's by far my favorite collection and I love watching it grow.

Los Angeles: A Small Coincidence at Mini Bites

Just read that article you wrote about sliders and I completely agree that mini-hamburgers should never be sliders. I only disagree with the use of onions and pickles. A slider without those vegetables tastes even better.

Cook the Book: 'Serious Barbecue' by Adam Perry Lang

I bought one of the cheapest steaks I could find at the local grocery store and didn't even take the time to marinade it. Instead I lit up my mini-hibachi grill and waited for the coals to cool down a bit. I grabbed a variety of sauces from my fridge and cabinet, ranging from A1 steak sauce to Japanese Sukiyaki sauce. As I slowly grilled my steak, I added differing amounts of sauces. When I decided it had been cooked to my specifications, I tasted the steak and realized it was the greatest steak I ever made. What made it even better was the knowledge that I could never duplicate it in just the same way again.

Inca Coke or Mexican Coke: Have you seen it?

I'm not sure if you're referring to Inka Kola, but if so, you will probably not want to replace your regular coke with it, as it has the flavor of bubble gum rather than what we think of as cola.

Top 10 Improbable McDonald's Items from Around the World

i really liked the taro pies in china and the teriyaki burgers in japan. as one commenter noted, it's not usually a good idea to get mcdonald's in foreign countries and i do try to avoid it as much as possible, just as i try to avoid fast food in the US, but sometimes you just need a quick bite to eat and there is always a mcdonald's around. also, i've found mcdonald's to be much better outside of the US.

A Full Dimensional Sandwich: Detroit's 3-D Special Sandwich

I had no idea that it wasn't called a party store everywhere---but then where I've lived outside of the Detroit area there really aren't that many independents. I think the difference is that in Michigan you can pretty much sell beer, liquor, chips whatever you need for a basic low-end party---but as a kid the candy aisles could not be beat. The liquor laws in other states I've been tend to limit stores mostly to liquor and not food so you don't really get party stores per se.

From Serious Eats

A Full Dimensional Sandwich: Detroit's 3-D Special Sandwich

I don't think party stores are a Michigan thing. I suspect it's just the name "party store" that is a Michigan thing. It's just a small, typically corner store with snacks, liquor, cigarettes, newspapers, and generally a half-hearted attempt at an aisle with some basic toiletries and grocery items. It's basically a 7-11 with liquor. I grew up with a party store down on the corner, and I used to ride my bike down there to get the Free Press every day in the summer so I could follow all the Tigers news.

From Serious Eats

A Full Dimensional Sandwich: Detroit's 3-D Special Sandwich

I love it...my kids asked me what party store was and all I could think to say is "it's a party, in a store!" Liquor Store, Deli, and Advil all available in one convenient location...sweet! I went to high school within walking distance of a Buscemi's, wierd pizza, but so addicting.

From Serious Eats

A Full Dimensional Sandwich: Detroit's 3-D Special Sandwich

The party store is the Detroit areas answer to the urban bodega or corner market. It's like a 7-11, Circle K, White Hen etc, but usually privately owned. Since it's not state controlled, nor are there huge emporiums, usually party stores have a nice selection of liquor, wine, and booze - henceforth the parties. The really special ones tend to have a sandwich counter or a mini-pizza operation in back. Another place I dig is Buscemi's which have decent Italian Subs and what is really a mediocre square bready pizza that has this cloying sweet sauce I can't seem to get enough of.

Fruit Wine and Cider Donuts at Russell Orchards in Ipswich, Massachusetts

I live close to Atkins and have been there more times then I can count. Their doughnuts are very good but aren't nearly as fresh as Shelburne Farms in Stow, MA. I've had apple cider doughnuts from all over. Never from Russell Orchards though. Randall's Farm in Ludlow are very good too.

You'll find though that they all use the same basic recipe. The apple ciders generally all taste the same too.

From Serious Eats

ok, ok -- I haven't tried Atkins! But then again, it's others who've dubbed Russell the best of New England, and I can only vouch for the fact that these were downright delish. Anyone tried both? And does Atkins fry on the spot? That was a pretty special perk.

I've gotta third the Atkins Farms love. I went to Hampshire College, which is right near there, and AF's cider donuts were a frequent guilty pleasure.

That's Nuts: Is Kung Pao Chicken Authentic?

My favorite is definitely cold szechuan style noodles with a peanut/tahini/chili sauce (Bittman's recipe is my basic starting point). A relatively simple dish with a lot of elan and layers.

And, btw, I thought peanuts were of African origin, and I thank you for a new piece of knowledge today!

Legend goes it was invented by this guy, and named after his title.

The picture is authentic - and very close to the original Sichuan version in fact. There are many regional varieties, but the main ingredients: chicken, peeled peanuts (the one with cashew nuts is actually a different dish), cucumber, spring onion and spices are all present here in this photo.

Chilli is the primary taste factor that makes most of the difference.
