Kenji, any thoughts on whether you could replace the cream in this with the food52 roasted onion sauce you tweeted out about? Would it reduce and thicken at all similarly?
The first time I really nailed a traditional carbonara. Is there a more perfect food?
while reading this list all i could think was TAKE 5 TAKE 5 TAKE 5
...glad i'm not the only one
Hope you keep writing here but either way I'll be at the Swine soon!
This is looking really different and awesome. It's going to be a great addition to the neighborhood when it finally opens!
P.S., I second the purse hooks - it is such a relief when I find those under a bar.
Love this series and love the in depth responses to comments from @Tyson Ho! Can't wait to visit the place when it opens!!
Nice job Serious Eats getting these guys on board!
My dad LOVES meatballs on his pizza. Meatballs and extra garlic.
when i saw 96 comments on this 2-product taste test i knew i was in for something good. for the record, if i were to make my own puff pastry i would use the recipe on serious eats, and if i were to buy puff pastry i would consult serious eats' taste test. thank you for fulfilling both of those needs.
best burger in the neighborhood, and same price as some much crappier ones
Made these tonight - they were delicious and very easy!
I went to Tasty Dumpling on the original dumpling roundup recommendation and was greatly disappointed - dumplings were cooked well in advance, skins were chewy and tore apart very easily and the filling had no moisture. Didn't come close to what I've had at Prosperity Dumpling. I checked back on the original post and saw some similar comments at the end of the thread. I wish you guys would do a re-visit on some of these round-up posts, especially when you take winners from taste tests that are several years old. Another example I can think of is Hide-Chan ramen, which has changed a lot since you first reviewed it. I know you can't revisit everything every time, but particularly if recent comments indicate major changes or a notable difference in quality, it seems worth it.
these are really cute/funny!
any idea where their meats come from?
The Boston location is the only one I haven't had this at, but I can confirm it is great at both of the other two!
I've been extremely impressed by the new Joe's on 14th - I had one kind of blonde, uncharred slice early on but ever since it's been consistently flavorful and well-cooked and easily the best regular NY slice in the Union Square/East Village area.
Figuring out what I can do with whatever's in the fridge - if it's a recipe it's not creative!
The adorable penguins and mice at LA Burdick should definitely be on this!
Dirt Candy! I'll be so sad when they move out of my neighborhood.
wings, fried bacon wrapped hotdogs, beers and rooting for the seahawks! oh and pat lafrieda sliders, of course.
This place is really great for the neighborhood it's in and the atmosphere/service is very nice too.
hot italian sausage
