Hey, NYC: What should I order from Fresh Direct?

I agree with the fresh produce - the fruit is pretty underwhelming. Only exception are the clementines - yum.

I love their FD brand snacks - you can get stuff like dried apricots, dark chocolate covered raisins almonds in bulk. They've got a great selection of sodas and stuff too, also cheese. Big fan.

Daily Slice: Mariella Pizza, an Oprah Fave

I used to work down the street from the location on 60th. It's cheap, greasy and doughy. Mushroom pizza was definitely topped with shrooms from a can. It's not terrible, but it's not great.

Gayle should've continued on to Patsy's down the street!

TGI Fry-Day: Greek Fries at Souvlaki GR

I had these last weekend for the first time - definitely delicious!! Plus the portion is huge which is obviously a win.

I also had the pork souvlaki sticks and the chicken pita. I'd skip the pork next time and just do chicken and fries.

If the girl behind the counter was friendly, this place would be perfect! Regardless, it's worth the wait

One-shot cooking classes pro or not pro / NYC area

Nothing beats the classes at The Brooklyn Kitchen in Williamsburg. They've got everything; knife skills, basic sauces, canning, etc., and they're moderately priced and hands on. Really fun - http://www.thebrooklynkitchen.com/web-store/classes/

Eataly- Italian Food Meca

Went today - it was amazing. Inspiring actually. The best part was Mario Batali walking around - orange Crocs and all - making sure all was running smoothly. We waited no more then a minute in line. It was mobbed inside but no more then any other New York City attraction. Definitely worth the selections of pasta alone!

Brooklyn Chinatown Recs

If you like Vietnamese - Gia Lam on 8th and 55th has the best Bahn Mi I've ever had not to mention great Pho and Shrimp on Sugarcane. It's also really cheap and near about 20 Chinese bakeries that'll be perfect for dessert.

Dinner in East Village?

I 2nd @hazenyc Momofuku Ssam is one of the best restaurants in the city, but that's not anything new.
I like Sunburnt cow too, but only if you really like to drink. Otherwise, the unlimites cocktail brunch isn't worth it. Especially since the one time I went, my party was forced to get up and leave our table to make room for other brunchers. We had to finish our cocktails at the bar, which was weird at 1pm.

Dinner in East Village?

Under $30 together or per person?

I always like to talk up Yuca Bar on 7th and A. Fabulous Tapas and cheap happy hour mojitos. Also Mamouns on St. Marks b/w 2nd and 3rd is great: cheap falafel and shwarma.

Oh and Crif Dogs! And Hummus Place! Avenue A Sushi and Momofuku Noodle bar! So many great options!

Cook the Book: Migas

OMG migas! As a Texan in New York, I am constantly complaining that I can't get migas ANYWHERE. Seriously! Does anyone know a place in NY with Migas on their brunch menu?

The best Migas I've ever had were at Star Seeds Cafe in Austin, Tx. Definitely a must for ATX visitors.

Best Food Neighborhoods in New York City

I have to give a shout out to my neighborhood, Sunset Park. It's often overlooked, but I've had GREAT Chinese, Vietnamese and Latin food from all over - Puerto Rican, Dominican, Mexican, etc. etc. Gi Lam on 8th Avenue and Eclipse on 4th and 43rd are two solid gems. Also Rico's Tacos and Sunset Park Diner (where they make their own donuts!) on 5th Avenue and 39th.

My old roommate had one of these. Her parents bought it in the 1980s when their family moved to Russia - it was their little peice of Americana. Everyone loves it, great conversation piece.
