My proudest moment usually has to do with pigs and blankets, dates stuffed with asiago and wrapped in bacon, or deviled eggs.

My friends and I were there on Monday night as well (we even saw the Serious Eats team!), and we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed everything that we had. I would agree that the deviled eggs were somewhat flat in flavor, but the crunch of the radish was a great addition. The spiced and lightly candied (but not cloyingly sweet) pecans on the bar were addicting, and my four friend and I may have consumed two pretzel dogs while we were there, they were so good. Like a full-size (and much better) version of bar mitzvah pigs in blankets. The chicken backs and necks were pretty glorious as well with some lemon and Tabasco mayo. I'll definitely be back and recommend it to colleagues.

I'm obsessed with his egg poaching technique, because I'm officially horrible at poaching eggs and with his version I could actually do it.

I would love it if this happened, with weekly dinners or something like that. Keep me informed!

@dfmny - is the club in chicago still around? my bro just moved there and he is feeling lonely and hungry.

Anyone Interested in Starting an Underground Supper Club in NYC?

I'd love to do this. I had a similar group when I was in Chicago, with a range of culinary palettes, tasting the eccentric nuances of the city's varied palette.

By that I mean we tried about 50 deep dish pizzas. I will also add that there is nothing wrong with that.

Thanks for collecting e-mail responses avideater! Anyone who is interested be sure and email avideater@gmail.com. As far as the specifics, that I think can be discussed once we have formed a group. There is the posibility of the rotating underground restaurant, which is actually fine to throw out there here because no location is being disclosed, or just dinner parties or cooking club, ect. Basically, this is a shoutout to all my fellow food nerds in the NYC. Depending on our collective interests and culinary skill level (I am sure some who responded are more eaters than cookers!) we can create the kind of group we want.

Lets not let this idea die! Email avid and we will set something up asap!

@ fieryfudge - great! email me at avideater@gmail.com to discuss.

So far there haven't been a lot of responses via email and I'd like to get the email group going so please email if you're interested.

I too might be interested in creating/eating/participating in an underground supper whatever.......

@FeliciaLovesFood - I hope you're still interested in developing this. After all, you started the post! Shoot me an email. Hope to hear from you soon!

Nope, not just 7. At that point only 7 had responded. Feel free to send me an email at avideater@gmail.com and tell me a little about your food taste. The group is still developing and it would be neat to have people with different backgrounds. Look forward to hearing from you.

I'm interested -- I don't know what demographic you're looking at, though; you guys are all awesome, you can tell me if you don't want a broke 22-year-old crashing your party, haha.

I found a clip about the segment in Seattle....
"I sent the following e-mail to Tony Bourdain's people:

"Flying under the radar of the authorities...this (underground restaurant) is where Seattle chefs come to play! The clientele is sophisticated foodies who appreciate all the chef's creativity--no worrying about profit margins or what will sell. Two nights a month, this crowd gathers, underground at an undisclosed location, for pure culinary magic! "

Additionally, I think the idea would be to get an small email group (I started one on gmail) outside of seriouseasts to keep this a more exclusive/small/private group. Thoughts?

From Talk

That is an option that I'd consider. I really enjoyed the concept in the Bourdain No Reservations Pacific Northwest episode. I wish I could locate a good description of it online, but I can't. Basically it was a group with a varied background who met occassionally to eat and present different concepts. They fix an elaborate dinner that everyone contributes to one way or another.

This group could meet at underground restaurants, restaurants in general, etc etc.

I think the main idea is to get a small group together of people in NYC who are interested in exploring the foodie scene here, but in a more "underground" fashion.

Is that correct, FeliciaLoveFood?

From Talk

Anyone Interested in Starting an Underground Supper Club in NYC?

so we are in agreement then - all dinners will happen underground.

Email me at avideater@gmail.com and we can discuss limitations, size of the group, etc. Since we are still only 7 members we should be able to shape this however we want.

I have dietary limitations to work around but I'm interested if I can do an occassional feast. Since I don't know any of you, I don't know how red meat happy you are.

NARC!!!

The first rule of Underground Supperclub IS YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT UNDERGROUND SUPPER CLUB.

That being said, I'm in.

@ FeliciaLovesFood, alainakunin, simon, Lorenzo -

If you're interested, should we set up an email for our small group. One of us, I can volunteer, can provide their email address, you can email me and I will set up an email group of the 2, 3, 4 + of us who are interested and we can go from there, rather than on this public post. Let me know what you think and I'll send my email in my next post to this chain.
