Memphis Championship BBQ in Las Vegas.
It depends.. the higher quality the bacon gets the less crispy I like it.
Looks yummy, but it drives me crazy when people call something that cooks for 10min BBQ.
I would like to second Lotus of Siam. Best Thai I have ever had.
As Cathy above mentions Denver is not that great for fine food though I second both Frasca and Mizuna.
I'll mention a couple of places to get good beer since that is what I know about Denver the most. :)
Bull and Bush Pub and Brewery is doing some great things with aged beers while having decent pub food.
Wynkoops www.wynkoop.com does a pretty good job at nicer pub food that pairs well with the beers they brew. Sometimes they have beer pairing dinners.
Take a tour of flying dog brewery and you will get to try the whiskey that the owners are making. (whiskey in Colorado?? who would have thought. It's actually pretty good stuff, though I am sure a nightmare to make seeing how dry the air is in Den)
Great Northern is a good place to go if you would like to try some of Colorado's best craft brews. They have Avery, Odell's, New Belgium etc. while again having some acceptable pub type food.
It's no secret that TJs sells private label items made by other companies. They happen to have a high quality standard to match the more reasonable price point. Unlike most shops doing this and placing them alongside brand names, they'll only carry limited varieties of an item. If you want a taste of this on a more budget level, check out ALDI. Yes, the place where you have to pay 25c deposit to use a shopping cart. They're about the most fantastic low end supermarket ever. No frills, mostly private label, and unbeatable prices. Same great satisfaction guarantee as TJs. I miss their $1.69 monster box of Frosted Mini Wheats dearly. And guess what - ALDI owns TJs.
This is idiotic. The packaging is usually an obvious tip-off of what product the TJ brand is a twin of - I'm pretty sure they do that on purpose.
Glad to hear they are a tough customer on quality control - thx jfultz.
Simple: Regular Distribution is manufacturer (x% margin)->distributor (30% margin)->Retailer (30-40%Margin). Trader Joes has huge volumes so it goes like this Manufacturer (lower margin than usual)-> Trader Joes. They cut out 30-50% of the margin. Hopefully that helps understand why they contract manufacture.
We have a winner!
And it's ... HEYCARL. Someone from Serious Eats will be contacting you shortly for shipping info.
Thanks to everyone who commented, and tune in again later today and throughout New Year's Day for a contest each day.
