Serious Eats Day 2012: What Day Should We Celebrate?
Must have a meetup in Washington, DC! If we want to meet on Feb 12, we could also celebrate Lincoln's birthday at none other than the Lincoln restaurant near McPherson Sq! The cocktails are good :) and the small plates aren't bad. But I'm not picky about the date.
What would you make if you had two days off and were housebound
LOL @SmokedMeat!
Make it three days and I'd make croissants, finally.
When I was trapped inside during the snowstorm over Super Bowl Sunday I had planned to make sliders, but I couldn't get to the store to get potato rolls, so I made those from scratch. I'm not a great bread baker so they weren't great, but dammit, I had my sliders! Also the house was cold so I had to let the dough rise on a heating pad. I didn't want to leave the heating pad unattended, so I put it next to me under the covers of the bed where I was reading. It was also keeping me warm. But all I could think about was the millions of yeast cells farting in my bed.

How funny. My friend is doing the same thing! She's doing it very scientifically (she IS a scientist in Houston). December was the control month, January is the vegan month, both with regular weight, glucose, bp measurements and lots of corresponding graphs on her blog (http://aveganchallenge.blogspot.com)! As well as food pics. She's also a baker on the side, so trying to bake vegan is also going to be an interesting challenge for her. I'll have to tell her to check out your efforts!
