The La Pasadita Throwdown: Which One Is Best?

i have to agree with the assessment of superior options nearby, at least with today's versions. the wife and i ate at "el nuevo" recently, and it was not what we remembered from a few years ago. at the time (2007?), they had gotten some good (and well deserved) publicity from the tribune. unfortunately, it seems that success has affected the quality.

seems like my comments aren't appearing; apologies if this is a double:
the duke of perth is one of the few things that get me out to lakeview (and second only to cubs games).

Sausage City: Presenting the Natural Casing Hot Dog Map

to start the suburban route, you should head to dempster st. in skokie (the stretch east of the edens). this was featured in the book "don't put ketchup on a hot dog".)

you have the added benefit of hitting up pita inn, which needs to be featured here (sandwich a day?)

Sausage City: Presenting the Natural Casing Hot Dog Map

a good place to start in the suburbs is dempster st. in skokie (the stretch east of the edens.) it was written up in the book "never put ketchup on a hotdog." i'm not sure which places have natural casings, but you can hit up poochie's, hub's, and herm's all right there (and perhaps others that serve hot dogs.)

while you're up there, you can also hit up pita inn, which needs to be featured here at some point (sandwich a day?)

just an fyi so as to not confuse anyone following the directions to the lincolnwood location: the location pictured is the lincoln park one (also near lincoln ave) and not the lincolnwood one.

It's a crime to not even mention Indian food here. For shame...

Dinner Tonight: Okra Curry

i'm going to sound like my mother here, but part of the issue i have with okra is the variety (i'm not going to use the word "quality") of okra we have here. i never liked it growing up here (indian style or not), but enjoyed it much more abroad. I've found that, at least in india, italy, and france, the okra is less sticky/mushy when cooked, and has a deeper flavor that isn't too strong.

Dinner Tonight: Palak Aalu, Palak Paneer's Cousin

looks great! my mother once used tofu as a paneer substitute in a palak paneer-esque dish (this is not native to my family's part of india.) it worked out surprisingly well, though i'm not as big of a paneer snob.
