My Latest Obsession: Pork Floss, Chinese Cotton Candy-esque Dried Pork

Love this stuff. My boyfriend is scared of it because rousong doesn't seem to have an expiration date but I just love it so much.

Besides using it on Congee, my all-time favorite food is actually a Shanghainese rice ball where within the ball of sticky rice, there's rousong, dots of pickled vegetable and a fried dough. Whenever people ask me what my last meal would be, the Shanghainese Rice Ball is always my answer.

Help me name this dish!

I think I had something similar somewhere and they just called it fried polenta or polenta fries. I would call it honey-fried polenta or something like that.

Japanese Snacks: Pocky

Yeah, there were sexist Men's Pocky and also Limited time Pocky dessert series with flavors like Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Cheesecake, Mont Blanc, Tiramisu and Hazlenut. I also love the Coconut Pocky with flakes of crunchy coconut. Yum.

@rainbowbrite: I do visit HMart often when I can't get to Mitsuwa, but as much as I enjoy HMarts, they are just not the same. The food court at Mitsuwa and the variety of ingredients trump everything else. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Poll: How Far Would You Travel For Good Food?

I live in Philly and I don't drive but I love Mitsuwa Supermarket in Edgewater, NJ. So what I do is that I'll take a bus to Chinatwon in NYC and then travel up by subway to Port Authority then take the van from Port Authority to Mitsuwa. About 3 hours one way not counting the time it takes to wait for all the buses, subway and vans.

36 Hours in New Orleans: Where to Eat

When I was there I went to brunch at The Court of Two Sisters and I had a great time. All you can eat buffet style inside an old world establishment with live jazz band playing in white tuxedo jackets, colonial style courtyard, all the crawfish you can eat. It's really nice.

I also stopped by the New Orleans School of Cooking for their class with lunch deal. It's relatively cheap and you get to learn how to make authentic gumbo, jambalaya and pralines. You'll need about 90 minutes to learn and eat, the teacher I had was very nice and knowledgeable. The whole thing is entertaining like a dinner theater. Touristy but could be worth it.

Poll: Do You Like Small Plates?

It is totally a scam. There's two restaurants around my neighborhood that do such thing, you get a few small plate for a moderately high price and you don't get full from it. I wasn't too impressed with the food or the price, worst of all I'm still hungry after the tasting experience and had to resort to getting a sandwich afterward. It's ok if they had advertised themselves as a tapas restaurant but they didn't and you expected a lot more.

$60 a person for a meal that didn't and couldn't satisfy, there is something wrong with this.

Bizarre Foods: Andrew Zimmern Meets His Match in Thailand

Occasionally I do watch his show but I find him intentionally trying to gross people out by finding the most obscure things and you can clearly see how he's dreading the experience, unlike Anthony Bourdain who's embracing embracing culture and the offal that he loves so much.

My only beef with that is Andrew is unintentionally painting a bad picture of the cultures and countries that he's visiting. It's like he's saying "Can't you believe that these people actually enjoy eating these disgusting things?" At the very least, it's assuring the people who rarely go out of their comfort zone that they really shouldn't try new things.
