What popular foods do you hate?

Pie. I've had only one good slice of pie in my entire life. Largely, it's a disappointing combination of downtrodden and soggy -- or, too-greasy and tasteless -- crust and gelatinous, droopy fruit.

Milkshakes: should they come with whipped cream on top or not?

Milkshakes don't need whipped cream. But I have noticed an increase in restaurants offering it with whipped cream, but I just attributed it to the influence of the Starbucks Mocha Frappaccino.

What popular foods do you hate?

I detest:
- onions
- garlic
- cilantro/parsley
- sweet-sour anything
- brown rice
- basmatic rice
- celery in my salads (I don't mind celery sticks, but I hate that "Suprise!" chopped celery in any type of salad)
- un-thoroughly-cooked bell peppers

I don't care for
- pork/bacon
- chocolate
- pizza
- pilaf (sacrilege!)

We actually did a Monthly Mouthful on this same question...."What food does everyone else love that you can't stand?" We got some good answers!

Mayonnaise or any mayonnaise based foods. I hate cole slaw, I hate potato salad, egg salad....all that stuff. Yuck.

What popular foods do you hate?

I can't stand the taste of Rosemary.
I don't like chunky yogurts. In fact, I can only eat about 1/2 container of smooth yogurt at a time, something about the texture.
Chocolate & mint together-- it's like eating chocolate and brushing my teeth at the same time, gross.
Licorice- ew. just ew.
Coconut- i love the smell, can't stand the taste
"fishy" seafood- i love sushi, shrimp (except when fried), tuna, salmon, but if it tastes distinctly seafoody/fishy, i can't do it
hot dogs
jello
wheaties/shredded wheat/soggy cereals
american cheese (blech)

i'm so picky haha
spaghetti and angel hair pasta- the tiny noodle texture bugs me

Gosh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that pork rinds were out of style. I'm a little behind the times.

I try to like sushi because my husband loves it, but the truth is it makes me want to yak. I close my eyes and chew quickly and swallow - ooh, yum, that is sooo good ....

The gals where I used to work absolutely loved this Chinese Restaurant around the corner from the office so they would go there 2-3 x a week! The Hot & Sour was awesome, but when I sat next to someone who was eating egg drop, I had to look away. That gloppy, over-cornstarched yellow snotty-looking swamp in a bowl just wasn't appetizing whatsoever.

What popular foods do you hate?

Popular things I dislike: Curry, paella, balsamic everything, pasta dishes that include onions.

I always want to like curries and paella, but I find their spices so overwhelming. It's hard for me to distinguish individual ingredients, and that makes me a little sad. It reminds me of something my dad used to say about those "smooth jazz" radio stations: listening to them is the aural equivalent of putting maple syrup on all of your food. Yeah, it's different, but it all tastes (sounds) the same.

Actually, I kind of feel the same way about balsamic. I like other types of vinegar, but balsamic is just so...inky.

And onions. They have a place in many dishes. Just not with my pasta.

Wooden Spoon - I am with you on potatoes! I don't hate them, but I just don't care enough about them to eat them. You could leave an opened bag of chips on my desk all day, I won't touch them. I don't care at all about fries, mashed potatoes -- all the things that people oooo and ahhhh over. This is the one thing that makes my mother think we might not be related...

What popular foods do you hate?

1. The ubiquitous raw chocolate cupcake on many menus these days - mentioned upthread as well (as the "molten" chocolate cake).
2. Raspberries and/or raspberry anything. Tastes like Robitussin.
3. Chicken in just about any form, although I'm bending a bit on this, in the interest of not being such a pain in the neck when out to dinner at someone's house.

Milkshakes: should they come with whipped cream on top or not?

I guess I'm lucky. The place from which I get my milkshakes( however rare they are), come with the stainless steel beaker and everything. The downside is that, living in California, my milkshake has been tainted by what we can now safely call the "Starbucks effect," in that it has whipped cream where whipped cream should not be. My final opinion: I won't flip out or boycott whipped cream, but if they ask, I'll be grateful to be given the opportunity to say "no".

From Talk

Milkshakes: should they come with whipped cream on top or not?

I vote with the no-whipped cream folks; I have worked at many soda fountains over the years, beginning as a car hop at an A&W Root Beer Stand in the 60s, and wherever we made real milk shakes, i.e. with ice cream, milk, a stainless steel beaker, etc. we never put whipped cream on top.

From Talk

Milkshakes: should they come with whipped cream on top or not?

I agree with yi - I think it is a starbucks thing. People are so used to getting every single drink covered in whipped cream - they probably started complaining to the milkshake restaurants.

From Talk

Milkshakes: should they come with whipped cream on top or not?

I think it's completely unnecessary... the milkshake should just stand alone.

From Talk

Milkshakes: should they come with whipped cream on top or not?

horrific.
like a double dessert.
junior's serves egg creams with whipped cream.
shudder.

From Talk

Milkshakes: should they come with whipped cream on top or not?

i prefer without whipped cream. i think it's just used as visual filler, to fool you into thinking there is more than you paid for.
