Also deserving a mention in thi lists (and practically every other post on seriouseats about NY baked goods) is Glaser's Bake Shop on 1st Avenue btwn 88th and 87th. Delcious assortment of pies all year round and at extremely reasonable prices. I absolutely adore Glaser's.

Where's the best Italian cheesecake in New York City?

I concur with Sunnyman. Monteleone's makes a fantastic Italian style cheesecake.

Who Sells Your Favorite Croissants in New York?

My favorite croissants are found at the DUMBO location of Almondine. All varieties available are stellar, especially the almond croissant and derivatives thereof.

The pretzel croissant at City Bakery is also very special to say the least.

TGI Fry-Day: Fries at Bark in Park Slope

I concur, the originals are "dandy"...

But the chili-cheddar fries are PROPHETIC...

Roadtrip Maine to South Carolina- where to stop for food

I certainly agree with the FIG recommendation. I also think McCrady's should probably be the #1 dining destination once you get to Charleston. Sean Brock and his crew are astounding and their passion runs at some of the highest levels found in the entire country.

Not sure what your exact travel plans are, but Town House in Chilhowie, VA is also an amazing place, albeit probably a bit far off of your path.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams in Columbus, Ohio

@ryanatjenis - Thanks for the advice. When I first noticed the Jeni's at BK Fare about a month ago there was maybe 5-6 flavors, Queen City Cayenne not among them. I'd wanted to try it because the general 'hoopla' surrounding the flavor from its food network appearance, but never thought to ask. Regardless, when I returned a few days ago there were closer to 10-12 flavors, and Queen City Cayenne was among them, along with a few of the others I'd wanted. They have more than enough varieties in stock to keep me satisfied. The pistachio & honey is easily my current favorite, incase anyone out there was desparately wondering...

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams in Columbus, Ohio

Welcome to Brooklyn, Brad. If you make your way over to Brooklyn Fare, on Schermerhorn, you'll notice their huge selection of Jeni's products. I check in every so often (live 2 blocks away) and the flavors they have in stock keep increasing; they seem to almost have them all now (I check on the Jeni's website for reference)! At $10.99 a pint it is obviously not cheap, but at least it can be found, and that is the important part.

Summer of (Hot Dog) Love: Bark Hot Dogs

I went there this afternoon for a 'snack' and everything was fantastic. Had the beans and frank dog and the chili cheese dog and my feelings essentially echo those from the review. Regular fries were great and gone extremely quickly. The blueberry cream shake was also quite good, definitely too thick to be taken from the straw but very very tasty. It's going to take a long time to make it thru the entire menu but I look forward to getting new things everytime I go back.

Sugar Rush: Rainbow Cookies from The Bakery on Long Island

Rainbow cookies have been my favorite single food item since i was 2. I have searched long and hard to find revelatory rainbow cookies in Manhattan and Brooklyn, however all efforts have been a waste.

The only place I even bother anymore is at Bagel Boys in Suffern, NY, the place that first fostered this love over 20 years ago. When I do return (now living in Brooklyn), I have on multiple occasions put away 1lb boxes of them before dinner, and then bring another 3-5lbs back to brooklyn. My parents have mailed me tins of them, and even a "stale" 1/2 pound after 3-5 days is better than anything I can find around here. I get that Suffern, NY is not on most (any) peoples radar regarding food, and it shouldn't be, but these are just too good for me not to mention as a serious serious eater and rainbow cookie lover.

Somewhere to brag about in NY...

I agree with kathryn, per se is certainly much easier to get into and with a month I think you should have little difficult getting a reservation there.

Just for the sake of mentioning different places, Le Bernardin is obviously fantastic and could be the real standout of your trip. Additionally, Blue Hill during spring is wonderful. Eleven Madison Park, Jean Georges, etc...all great choices.

ok thank you very much. I knew that had the abbreviated lunch but over the past 6-7 months of going on their website every single day and saving pdf's of menus April 12 was the first time I've ever seen it actually posted there. Strangely, I went to check later that day again and it was gone. Guess I'll have to wait for the weekend and see if another shows up...

Roger Ebert on His Love for Steak 'n Shake

I really think steak n shake is an exceptional establishment. The food aside (which I do really enjoy), the company makes a concerted effort to hire mentally challenged individuals and provide them with a good working environment. This type of social responsibility is hard to come by in Corporations and I must applaud that.

Celebrate National School Lunch Week

The square/rectangular pizza was always my favorite in elementary school. This day was, of course, divided into its own levels of greatness. I always got pepperoni, and usually there was a single slice laid in the middle of a pizza. On some magical days, the powers above decided it was just "my day" and I would find 2 slices accidently stacked ontop of eachother, thus allowing me to spread them out and have fabulous flavor throughout. Aaahhhhh, memories...
