Looking for a NY bakery experienced in marzipan
A friend is looking to buy a birthday cake embellished with marzipan birds. Anyone know which bakeries work with marzipan?
I've been making Ina's for years but struggle with getting the chocolate just right. Do you have an easy way to temper? http://insweettreatment.blogspot.com/2010/03/look-to-coconut-chocolate-macaroon.html
Any idea where we can buy in New York?
Now if only you could take us off the hook when it comes to pre-made pie crusts!
With the opening of the Upper West Side Trader Joe's I discovered the mini peanut butter cups. Yum, and so good in a chocolate cookie:

Despite having gone to pastry school I'm ashamed to admit I'd never made a tarte tatin. This month's Bon Appetit has a recipe using tomatoes. What a treat for my first attempt--a surprising twist on a bistro classic. Easy and wonderful!

I say make a 1/2 batch of her fantastic brownie recipe, omit the coffee, and add a cup or so of chopped Andes mints. If it wasn't too hot to turn the oven on, I'd make them right now.
Using a lemon curd filling or a seven minute frosting may be a less cloying way to go. I'd stay away from buttercream. http://insweettreatment.blogspot.com/2010/06/dads-birthday-weekend-coconut-cake.html
After 30 years of research I have settled on the Barefoot Contessa's Outrageous Brownies, better than Nick's and better than Dorie's in my opinion

The NY Times recently had a piece on various sweets using sweetened condensed milk..fudge being one of them. The recipe was just like my grandmother's, super easy and corn syrup free!

I am a devoted smuggler and I go to the movies weekly with my best friend. Our candy menu (thanks to Duane Reade) never changes; water, Dark Chocolate M & M's (you know, cause the flavanoids are good for you!), Junior Mints to cleanse our palate and Sour Patch Kids because you have to have something fruity. Did I mention we're in our 40's!
For an even bigger selection you have to try Myzels, 140 West 55th Street, I've never seen so many varieties and from all over. Yum.
Nothing wrong with cooking for one!

Super creamy with a great graham crust, lightly orangey filling, and an almost stained glass-like caramelized orange topping, this cheesecake was almost as good to look at as it was to eat. More
Bright and bracing rhubarb punctuate a rich, buttery crumb cake... More
My grandmother used to watch "The Wheel of Chance" (um, that would be "fortune" Grandma) while eating Pecan Sandies. But these, and Walker, sound so much better. I want your grandma!
