Can You Handle the Stink?
Pleasant Ridge Reserve is our "house" cheese. When it first appears in October it has a totally different smell, and taste than it does when it finally runs out...usually around April. As it has become more well known I fear the limited supply will be depleted sooner. Perhaps my genius husband deserves a wheel for Valentines Day...nothing says love quite like the stink of cheese.

Heat. Without it you're not cooking. With inadequate heat you can wreck the best ingredients, and with too much heat you can run afoul as well.
Ultimate, culinary dream machine?
I dream of a Pacojet...that would make all my ice cream dreams come true.
Are you a "back-of-the-box" gourmet?
The brownie recipe on the back of the Bakers unsweetened chocolate box. It is super easy, one bowl, and always, always, turns out brownie perfection. Praise this recipe...yes praise!
Childhood, Part II. What did you hate then that you love now?
Strawberries, yes fresh strawberries! I can't remember why though.

It's that lovely feeling I get when I come home and I know what I want to cook and I'm just feeling it...pulling the ingredients, chopping dicing, sauteing. A good glass a wine, some good music, great smells...it's home.
Does Anyone Really Love Pumpkin Pie?
I love pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, and I will eat butternut squash right out of the rind once it's roasted. I bake pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie in autumn, not really for the holidays so much. I generally love squash. I once made pies from a squash in Peru just because it was a novelty. These squashes/gourds are so big it takes two people to carry one. It's important to remember that pies aren't just a desert - they are often the main course, filled with meats, vegetables, and spices. My family usually has pumpkin pie around Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we also get tired of traditional holiday foods. Frequently, for Thanksgiving or Christmas, we will decide to have something different at the table. Last year we had an incredible Italian dish that my father prepared for Christmas, and I smoked chicken and baby back ribs for Thanksgiving. It didn't change the spirit of the holidays at all for us. So, I guess the important thing is that you enjoy what you cook and eat during the holidays.

Obviously there is no one voting from the Pacific NW where the odds on favorite is huckleberry!! Marionberry is also right up there.
And I gotta agree with Vanessa about bumble berry. My favorite combination is black (marion) berry, raspberry, strawberry and huckleberry.
Does Anyone Really Love Pumpkin Pie?
I laughed so hard at this blog, because my mom used to make me pumpkin pies for my birthday instead of cake, because I loved it so much. I still do. It is the BEST part of Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for me. I love pumpkin bars, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, and pumpkin cheesecake. PLEASE DON'T GET RID OF PUMPKIN PIE!!!
Does Anyone Really Love Pumpkin Pie?
I haven't swooned over pumpkin pie yet, but I sure do like it served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
I want to swoon over it, though.
@Lippy: I must find that Beard pumpkin pie recipe with preserved ginger and brandy. I've got some Raynal V.S.O.P that needs a job.

Sunday Supper: Beef Stroganoff
Vanessa, that looks FABULOUS. Oxtail is ridiculously expensive nowadays - I remember back when we could get them for about $4 for a giant package. Nowadays, they sell for 12-15 bucks. BOOOO.
I adore stroganoff - there's something about that rich, creamy beefy sauce on top of some noodles. (I'll confess that sometimes, I've just spooned sauce into a bowl and sopped it up with some crusty bread.)
