Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Russ & Daughters Brunch Package

plump raisins stuffed inside pieces of cracklin' oat bran. It's fun, hearty with just the right amount of sweetness, and easy to grab on the go. Bonus points for getting the raisin to plump up like a grape!

I think that for many new jobs, it would be impossible to know if the fit could be right without actually trying it. I think that Hannah made a very rational, and logical decision. Given that she loved working in a restaurant, could it have been possible that she would also enjoy working in a more corporate restaurant? Of course! What is the best way to find out? To jump in! That's exactly what she did, and that alone required a lot of guts. It also takes a lot of guts to publicly reflect on your experience and say "I thought this could be for me, but I hated it and here's why, and here's what is next." It's unfair to belittle her because the outcome wasn't as she expected, and it turns out that it wasn't for her. It's also unfair to try and insinuate something about her character from a writing style... like any column, it is written for the readers, and judging by all of the posts on her except for the last one, I'd say that it's a pretty successful one at that!

Keep up the drive and adventure, Hannah ! You won't live and learn unless you take some risks, and you will only find where you best fit if you are willing to accept failure as a possibility. You will encounter the stray meanie or two, of course, and the best way to deal with them is to smile and keep going! :O)

I'm so glad that you are back! Your column was one of my favorites, and it was a total surprise today to see your post! I think I know the company you are talking about, because they came to recruit at my school. The woman who was doing the recruiting was very severe, and a little cold. Does it start with an "H" ?

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Charles Chocolate

Let's just be honest here. When I'm craving chocolate, I'm not going to last long enough to whip up anything that takes longer to produce than say, 35 seconds. The unspoken truth is that those bags of nestle semi-sweet baking bits? I'd say that a pitiful 40% of them actually made it to the full fledged status of being dessertified. They are bite sized and handful friendly for a reason! So while the other goods on this forum sound lovely, none can hold a candle to the foundation of the chocolate dessert - the supremely satisfying, instantly gratifying, chocolate chip morsel!

If you don't have time to read Jennifer Lee's book, I highly recommend this TED talk:

Threadless T-Shirt Giveaway: Booty Fruit

There is nothing as satisfying as a juicy, sweet red apple.

Threadless T-Shirt Giveaway: A Piece of Cake

THIS ONE!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/vsoch/1370362367/

It's a simple Yellow cake from a cookbook my parents got for their wedding (back in the stone age) with semi-sweet chocolate chunks, a chocolate Devil's food cake in the middle, all held together with home made buttercream frosting and rainbows. If you don't use semi-sweet, or don't beat the batter correctly, it's not right. If you nix the rainbows, it's not right either. With a glass of milk, this is the cake I want waiting for me in heaven.

Threadless T-Shirt Giveaway: Baron VonFunburger's Haunted Castle Cavalcade

Chaco-taco FTW! Taco Bell used to have them, along with those cinnamon crispers, and there was nothing like 2 soft chicken tacos followed by...

Tearing into the chewy goodness of the cookie wafer shell...
accented by the melty vanilla ice cream...
chocolate haphazardly drizzled across the top
with a touch of crunch from the nuts

and that LAST BITE that was always a complete mess, but it was really completely wonderful!

Threadless T-Shirt Giveaway: Pancake Mountain

My mom used to make homemade chocolate chip pancakes EVERY Sunday, and we'd freeze them in baggies in pairs for a quick throw in the microwave during the school week. Technically, each baggie had one cake for me, and one for my brother, but one day he didn't come down for breakfast, and I was left with an extra cake. Would I put syrup on it, and have a little more? Throw it back in the freezer for tomorrow? Well, I had a track meet that afternoon and knew that I could use a little extra energy, so I ditched the syrup, pulled out the vanilla bean ice cream, and made a chocolate chip pancake ice cream sandwich. The warm pancake and melty vanilla was... delicious!!

...and I broke the school record for the 800 meters that afternoon!! THAT is what i call powered by pancakes :OD

What does a young foodie/recent grad need in his kitchen?

I'm a recent grad, small apartment, not a lot of cash... and most of my cooking involves one pot, a sharp knife, and it's always a bonus to have an electronic water kettle, next to my computer for maximized multi-tasking. And honestly? Most days I'm exhausted and find the cheapest and healthiest fast food salad that I can! When you add up time and gas for going out and getting ingredients, it's totally worth it, and the instant gratification is pretty awesome!

Dear Whole Foods,

Dear Whole Foods,

I used to go to you every day, without a doubt, to get something covered in yogurt, and something covered in carob or chocolate. I'm a distance runner, and you know... we have our needs! Not only did you discontinue having your yogurt covered peanuts in your NC store, but you also soon rid of the yogurt covered raisins. Not only do I miss my trips to the bulk bins, but I hardly go to your store anymore. It's one or two rare items like those that give incentive to choose one store over another. Maybe I'm one in many, but it's a marginal loss of about 10 bucks a day for you guys. Bring back the yogurty-goodness!!
