Easter Weekend in Savannah...

There are a lot of negative (and thinly veiled sarcastic) comments about Paula Deen on this site. That's OK. Paula is happy, cute, popular, funny and wealthy! Her latest venture, a buffet restaurant at Harrah's in Tunica, was packed when I was there recently.

Sorry, y'all......All of the restaurants I mentioned in the above post are on Tybee Island.......the beach that is just east of Savannah......

I have eaten at the Crab Shack for years and I think the food is good. Remember, if the word "shack" is in the name of a restaurant, do not expect anything fancy. You can sit on the deck outdoors, under the peach basket light fixtures and trees strung with white lights, watch the gators, look at the exotic birds, and people-watch. I highly recommend Sundae Cafe for a meat and sides lunch or a nice dinner. Fannie's on the Beach has awesome pizza and quesadillas. Doc's Bar has good sandwiches and fried shrimp. Hunter House is nice and quiet and serves yummy dinners. The best place for lots of inexpensive fried seafood is the Outback Cafe.

Adam, Honey Chile.......(I'm Southern by choice)......The link you provided doesn't have any info. If you do a search for burger doughnut, you will see the history of combining doughnuts with hamburgers. Please don't make us wait too long for your "crazier burger."

A burger with cheese and bacon on Krispy Kreme doughnuts was sold at the minor league Gateway Grizzlies baseball concession stand just outside of St. Louis in 2006. So give credit.....or barbs.....where due.....

Paula is truly that vivacious and flirtatious all of the time, not just for the cameras. The accent you hear is genuine. Lots of people in the South sound just like her.

Paula didn't create the recipe for the Lady's Brunch Burger with a Krispy Kreme donut instead of bread. The Krispy Kreme burger was sold at the minor league Gateway Grizzlies baseball concession stand just outside St. Louis in 2006.

Paula Deen Is Trying to Kill Us, Part 3

Paula is a loving person and has fun everywhere she goes. I know many of her employees and she treats them well. She is wealthy now due to working hard and developing a skill that people value. She didn't expect to be a TV celebrity. She only wanted to support her family. You don't have to prepare her recipes or go to her restaurants. Chill out!

From Serious Eats

Paula Deen Is Trying To Kill Us

I have seen Paula at numerous events and parties and she is genuinely vivacious and her accent is real. She talks, laughs, and flirts with everybody. Don't be a hater!

Michelle Obama to Deep-Fry on Paula Deen Show

All U.S. citizens have the right to have political opinions and to use whatever resources they have to promote candidates if they wish to do so. That includes celebrities, cooks, the unemployed, the retired, and YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE.

OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!

Paula's a real Southern gal......who flirts with men, other women, kids, even pets ......who usually respond by flirting back. I've lived in her community for 30 years and I can say she has been very animated every time I have seen her. The accent is real and many Southerners sound just like her. She and her family are very generous and support many local charitable organizations.

Paula likes to say, "I'm a cook......not a doctor." Her accent is completely real and there are many Southerners who sound just like her! She is a happy woman who is laughing all the way to the bank. She and her family are very generous. New York Times had Donut Pudding printed a few weeks ago. Made it twice and pased it around to friends. Made more raspberry jelly for the second batch and doubled the # of donuts for a really large pan. If you decide to make some kind of donut thing, don't use Dunkin Donuts. They don't have enough jelly in them unless you are driving and eating a donut with the other hand. You can order big ones from the Stop & Shop. Frozen dough, sure but they hold a lot of jelly and when you add cream, eggs and sugar. Yum.

Michelle Obama to Deep-Fry on Paula Deen Show

I was hugely disappointed Michelle Obama would be on Paula Deen's how no one should cook show. Was she sending a message to Americans that fried, battered foods are good for you? I would expect the first lady to set an example of healthy, nutritious food preparation. I can't express how disappointed I am. I know I am being redundant, but I just can't believe she would choose Paula Deen of all the shows on the food network. Absolutely, the worst!

Paula Deen Is Trying To Kill Us

Its real and its here... (as disgusting as it is)

Paula's Fried Butter Balls

2 sticks butter 2 ounces cream cheese Salt and pepper
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 egg, beaten
1 cup seasoned bread crumbs
Peanut oil, for frying

Cream the butter, cream cheese, salt and pepper together with an electric mixer until smooth. Using a very small ice cream scoop, or melon baller, form 1-inch balls of butter mixture and arrange them on a parchment or waxed paper lined sheet pan. Freeze until solid. Coat the frozen balls in flour, egg, and then bread crumbs and freeze again until solid.
When ready to fry, preheat oil in a deep-fryer to 350 degrees F.
Fry balls for 10 to 15 seconds until just light golden. Drain on paper towels before serving.

Full recipe is here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/paulas-fried-butter-balls-recipe/index.html

Whats the difference between this recipe and deep fried mozarella or deep frying whole turkeys or chickens (before baking) or even Krispy Kremes which are deep fried TWICE?? All of which I cannot stomach.

It's hard to watch Paula Deen when she is making a dish or chicken soup.
Whatever the recipe is, I have trouble getting thru her programs. No. 1 She talks over making the food and her spittal goes right into the food! Yuck!
It is not professional at all. No. 2 she tastes everything with the spoon or
fork she is using. So gross! She does not show great hygine when cooking. Her dna is going into everything she makes when talking over preparations. I would not want to eat anything she makes! At least talk
away from the dish being prepared and don't touch the dog, or your hair.
Never put the dish cloth over your shoulders either...all that hair and who know what else sitting on the shoulders. Totally grosses me right out!
Hope she takes some advice and changes many of her way's!!!

I have been eating for close to 5 years a low carb diet. I eat tons of fat, butter, eggs, red meat, pork chops, veges galore. Have not eaten one bite of sugar, flour, rice, bread in this entire time. Not one cheat. I am not over weight, I am very healthy. So you roll your eyes and say, Wow her cholesterol must be very high. Not so. I recently had my cholesterol checked and was told they could be framed and put on a wall as being ideal. Fat is not the evil it is combining fat with high carbs that cause great problems. No I will not eat deep fried butter balls not because it is butter but because it has bread crumbs in the recipe. I love Paula, I love the South and I love southern cooking just the low carb way.

I can't stop laughing at the absurd and reactionary remarks. This is food, not a war draft. Good thing we live in America were we are free to be critical to anyone we disagree with, because we are really good at it.

Where's the LOVE? Paula didn't make up these recipes they have been around for a while, she is a southern cook who makes southern dishes. Some southern dishes are loaded with butter and lard, that's traditional southern like it or not. It is what it is.

Didn't read the article. Oops!
But, after reading some of these posts, I am not sure a lot of other people have either.
There is a lot of truly sounding negativity on Paula and on Southern food in general!
This food is not meant to be eaten everyday!
But, neither is fast food, junk food, or any other high-calorie foods.
I am not sure that a lot of people that posted are getting the joke either.
Some of the posts come off as down right mean!

What is wrong with you people? Live a little!!!
Paula Deen makes homestyle cooking. What is up with these post of where can I find Creme Fraise or other European products?
You live in America don't you!!!
Eat American and shut up.
What is wrong with a lady cooking on tv?
You are all way to analytical and judgemental.
Quit sucking the happiness out of life.

This is such a problem with humanity. Judging always judging others.
No one can kill you with food without your permission!
I eat a low fat diet, that is my choice. I absolutely love watching Paula Dean. She is wonderful and fun loving person. I find myself smiling and laughing when she is on tv.
Paula so loves to cook and she loves to eat her high fat recipes.
I induldge myself by watching her eat it. She makes recipes that SHE LOVES. When I am interested in a dessert, I modify it.......hello you can subsitue heavy cream for milk etc. Don't accuse her of killing you, I'm sick of people that blame others for their health issues. Paula Dean eats what she loves to eat and if you don't like it OH you can change the channel.

I love Paula Deen. She is one of my heros. She is comfort. She reminds me of what my what my mother did in her kitchen all of her life. My mom lived to be 94. My dad till he ws 89 when a drug taking driver killed him. If you don't like the way she cooks or what she cooks, don't listen to her. You've got a remote control, use it. "Lettuce" not forget that you've got a choice.....

From Serious Eats

Paula Deen Is Trying to Kill Us, Part 3

Paul Deen is an interesting character. That this women has not had a heart attach with all of her high fat recipes simply amazes me!!

Where do I start?? First of all, the obviously faked souther accent gets a little old. I have heard her pronounce the same word a couple of different ways, For example, I have heard her pronounce "shrimp" as a one syllable, clipped work. On other occasions, I have heard her pronounce it "shrrrrriiiiimmmpp", with an obvious warping and almost making it a three syllable word!! Cute, Paula!!

Secondly, the woman cackles when she laughs!!! She should get a part in a witch movie!!! Or maybe, working a haunted house on Halloween.

Thrid, Paula, if your gonna wear fake eyekashes, make them reasonable length! Those fans you wear could cool downtown Atlanta in August!!

Fourth, watch Paula sometime when she tastes her food. She shoves in a bite that is probably about four times bigger than the average human being! And the sounds she makes--I swear the woman is having an orgasm when she wraps her lips around some of the hi-cal grub!!!

Fifth, Paula, on magazine covers, don't have them go so far wit the retouching. I have seen a cover of her and her husband when I did not know at first glance who they were!!! Her turkey neck completely disappered, and Michael's eyes almost looked like they were open!!!

I could go on, but I won't. My wife loves the food channel, and occainally watches Paula. But, hey, to each their own!!!

From A Hamburger Today

Paula Deen Is Trying to Kill Us, Part 4: Bacon, Doughnut, Egg Burger

Paula Deen is beyond ridiculous. Fame and fortune have turned her into a self absorbed icon. Her jokes about butter, fat, and everything else she uses in her 'so so" recipes are not funny. She serves to reinforce the notion that southern women are backward, silly and syrupy sweet. Those of us who have fought to overcome that perception are not happy.

Paula, all you do is give overweight, unhealthy fans permission to continue down their destructive path. That is truly not at all comical. At least make an attempt to offer suggestions for healthy changes in your recipes. Maybe your just tell your audience, "be like me smoke, don't exercise, eat unhealthy and see where that gets you". The jokes that you make are truly a "thumb your nose" gesture to your fans and make your "love and best dishes" sign-off totally disingenuous.

Perhaps Paula has not noticed that we have a health crisis in our nation that is even affecting kids. Thanks Paula for making sure we have your permission to add another stick of butter to our already clogged arteries.

Food network should rein her in.

I love Paula! She is a genuine and caring person. If you are "grossed" out by what she is preparing, or with receipies she's sharing with us, don't watch or prepare her food. Simple as that. Why put yourself thru all that?

Keep up the great work Paula!
