Burger King's New French Fries: Thicker, Less Salty

I know this article is "old" but just came across it... does anyone remember YEARS ago when BK first changed their fries and to announce it they had those pop up cards on the table? And that card had a picture of the top of a very famous "dough boy" at the bottom? All I remember is ever since that happened...they tasted less like potato and more like...hmm...Pills-effing-bury! Did I dream this?

Yum! The first time (and only time, besides when I make it at home) that I've had esquites (thanks for informing me that the corn in a cup is NOT elotes...) was in Chicago's Maxwell Street Market. I don't remember the vendor, but if you walk around you'll find one. Yum!

OMG i love alton brown... he's one of the main reasons why i decided to become a chef 7 years ago... anyway..this year I'm planning on putting on my table, is of course, the alton brown turkey (never fails), kabocha squash soup, mashed parsnips and taters (with garlic, of course) pumpkin knot buns, Chestnut stuffing, braised brussel sprouts, orange cranberry relish, and a pumpkin chiffon pie. Also, vegetable oil cuts right through the stickiness of the latex like substance it excretes. My boyfriend found this out in a very odd way...eating jack fruit and chicken wings... the oil of the chicken wings was cutting through the glue! He later looked it up online and found out oil was indeed the trick. :)

Have You Ever Tapped a Maple Tree?

Oh yes I have! When I was about 11 or 12, my Dad (who was born and raised in Quebec) and I decided to tap the few maple trees that were scattered around our house. It was about a 2 week project... we had an old woodstove that he pulled out of the garage and set up outside with giant pots to boil the syrup in. (forget about doing it inside! oi!) The syrup was awesome! My grandmother was in charge of watching the fire during the day while my folks were working...and she forgot about it one day. The syrup? Well, if it hadnt had turned completely black and toffee-like would have been Tire! Which no one in the States has ever heard of. Its maple syrup that is golden clear, but the consistency and thickness of...well honey almost. And let me attest that that is one of the yummiest things to spread across crepes on a cold morning. :)

mango sticky rice in Chiang Mai, Thailand...my friend Kelly and I roamed and roamed the streets searching for the market (mind you, i was roaming with a huge gauze on my big toe since I had lost the nail earlier that day!)
