Lunch Today: Pho Dac Biet and Banh Cuon from Thai Son in Chinatown

Xe Lua is also my go-to. The waiters are really friendly AND can speak Vietnamese!

Also, you don't have to steam banh cuon. You can fry them in a similar fashion as banh xeo. That might be why they were greasy.

Shanghai Cafe Deluxe in Chinatown Serves Hit and Miss Classics (And Great Soup Dumplings)

@mage789

What are your recs for 8th Ave? I've found the Vietnamese food to be no better than what is already found in Manhattan's Chinatown, but haven't explored much of anything else in Sunset Park. Aside from the awesome Latin street vendors. :)

The French Macaron?

NYC macarons aren't the greatest, but after you have a Parisian one, you'll be singing a different tune. :)

It's worth it to walk a couple blocks down to La Nonna. Even better, just go over to Best Pizza.

Hide-chan Ramen: Come for the Noodles, Stay for the Pork Toro

We started out with the buns, which were mostly hard and made us sad. I had the Hakata Kuro Ramen, which tasted nothing like the description (not really garlicky in any form, though definitely looked like it had the charry oil). I remember it not having much flavor at all, honestly. I believe my friend had the Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen, though nothing about it really stood out.

My friend and I were pretty disappointed about it, having read so many positive things before hand. I looooooooove Ippudo, but Hidechan is close to my office, so we were hoping very much for awesome ramen nearby. :(

Hide-chan Ramen: Come for the Noodles, Stay for the Pork Toro

No fair! This place was terrible when I went for dinner a few weeks ago. :(
