I've been reviewing instant noodles from all over the world for over ten years now. I've interviewed large companies, tried the truly bizarre and have over 1000 reviews under my belt.
Yeah that's the 2012 Top Ten List - here's the 2013 - http://www.theramenrater.com/top-ten-lists/all-time-packs/the-ramen-rater-top-ten-instant-noodles-of-all-time-2013-edition/
@hgsrob - yeah that's why my kid likes this thing since it comes out with far less broth.
@CanadaChris - yeah it took a lot longer than 18 minutes - hey at least there's music, right?
@copperchef - you know, a lot of people use it a lot and really like it. My son thinks it's the coolest thing ever. I use it when making him some with fish cake and cheese, but I don't usually use it for my reviews since it requires changing the original directions on the package which vary greatly.
Most people aren't as meticulous about their instant noodle preparation however and this thing works really well.
@ronnieshipley - check out www.theramenrater.com - I assure this is no joke. Most people are only introduced to a couple varieties of instant noodles made domestically, but there are literally thousands all over the world. with their own angle on local cuisine.
@wilson1530 said "Here it is, National Cheeseburger Day, and we have a posting about Ramen. I love it."
You know what? I posted about instant noodles AND cheeseburgers - check it out :)
Actually, I include the back of each package on there. As for not eating it every day, I haven't had any ill effects from it. There are millions of people who eat one meal a day of instant noodles in poor areas of the world.
@mednerd - oh yeah I know but this ramyun-bokki is where it's at, hence on the list
@Champong - Yeah I add lots of different things to my instant noodles; I do it every day as it is my breakfast usually. The scores the get are always done before I add the niceties.
@JonWinter Damn tootin!
I think the over 100 BILLION packs, cups and bowls that were eaten by people around the world in 2012 would disagree!
Yep - you should be able to find the Nongshim varieties easily as well as the Myojo and Sapporo Ichiban. The Indomie Rendang is pretty easily found too. Actually now that I think of it, I got the Sapporo Ichiban and the Mama at Walmart last time I bought them. The Prima Taste is a little trickier to find though.
This list has had some interesting effects on the world - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMH3CngBwHw
The ones from Indonesia and Africa are different though from what it sounds - really want to try some of the African versions!
There's a new list for 2013 - feel free to distribute - http://www.theramenrater.com/top-ten-lists/the-ramen-rater-top-ten-instant-noodles-of-all-time-2013-edition/
Just hit #1000! Its a weird oine too! www.theramenrater.com
Just thought I'd let everyone here know - I will be reviewing my 1,000th unique instant noodle variety on Thursday, March 14th! Come and check it out at the new and improved The Ramen Rater! www.theramenrater.com
Ah Mr. Noodles - I did a whole series of those on my blog The Ramen Rater (www.theramenrater.com). Nothing like the fancy Canadian stuff!
@onlyservingsuggestion - Hey I like the site! Looks liike you have access to some wonderful instant noodle varieties over there. I'd like to try more of the Fuku and some of those different Nissin varieties. Also, I've noticed there's a couple odd cups available - one has narutomaki in the shape of Hello Kitty and one with Spiderman - this would be awesome to try I think!
@lulla - no prob! Noodles are my thing so helping people find them is something I enjoy!
@lulla - Indeed! It's Paldo Stirfried Kimchi Noodles - Review #344 - here's the link - http://ramenrater.wordpress.com/2011/04/08/344-paldo-stirfried-kimchi-noodles/
I like the WuMu too - the BBQ pork is really good!
@reverendsteveii - I have some wonderful news for you - BACON RAMEN IS REAL! Here's the review I did on it a while back - it comes from England! http://ramenrater.wordpress.com/2011/11/05/562-batchelors-super-noodles-bacon-flavour/
@notalocalpeople - shoot me an email - email@example.com - thankd!
@theotherworldly - shoot me an email - firstname.lastname@example.org - thankd!
@theotherworldly - Oh yeah I'd love to try more of these. Any chance you'd like to donate some? :)
@sangpark & @nelkins - Actually, you're both right. Nongshim is a Korean company, but the Bowl Noodle line comes from Rancho Cucamonga, California. On a side note, I'll be visiting Nongshim's plant there later this month to do a tour, tasting and interview with them. You'll hear about it on Serious Eats, too!
@droostring - Yeah there aren't many things like that around these days available in the US. When I was talking with Nissin Foods USA, I asked if they could liase some kind of shipment of samples from their parent company in Japan. That wasn't gonna happen - its tough to get things like through customs. On the other hand, I'm doing a 'Meet The Manufacturer' week this week on www.theramenrater.com - featuring Indonesia's 'Indomie' brand. They sent a lot of samples and they made it through fine.
Hey noodle peoples - Thought I'd just mention that there will be a lot of new reviews on The Ramen Rater soon - lots of Indonesian things and more domestic stuff in the USA! Should be awesome. Also, I'm working with a place to see if we can make the complete top ten list available as a single package that you can buy! I think a lot of people woiuyld really enjoy that and hopefully it goes down soon. Thank you for all the wonderful comments, criticisms and everything else! - Hans Lienesch, The Ramen Rater www.theramenrater.com
What a great article! I think my favorite is Kizami Shoga. I also am very keen on eggs being added - nothin betta! Check out my Blog, The Ramen Rater - I've put a bunch of my reipes n there. I think that people should check out many different types of ramen - the Indonesian is some excellent stuff!
