Mark Bittman's Savory Oatmeal with Scallions and Soy Sauce

I was just wondering about this very thing, since I'm not a big fan of sweet breakfast foods--blasphemy, i know. I suppose since grits and congee and kasha all work in a savory realm, this isn't that much of a stretch. I'm most curious about the texture. might have to try it!

NY for the weekend, where to eat near Times Square?

there's also some good places not too far from where you're staying on 9th ave in the 40s and 50s, so you don't have to brave the subway. Pam Real Thai on 49th between 9th and 10th has some of the best thai in the city, and not fancy, as you requested.

Burrito Box on 9th between 57th and 58th has great cheap mexican food. and rudy's is a ny staple with free hot dogs, so it doesn't get much cheaper than that.

if you wanna go a little fancier, but not as crazy as esca, Becco is in the same family (Lidia Bastianach) and is right on restaurant row mixed in with the tourist traps. they have great prix fixe and theater deals as well. 46th between 8th and 9th...

I have to disagree with Vynl (it's gross and boring), but totally agree with Carnegie John's food cart which i think is on 56th near 7th ave. you'll see the line. good choice for some ny street food--take it to the park and have a picnic nyc style.

have fun!!!

Best Hangover Food?

I go for salt and vinegar potato chips every time. preferably the Dirty brand. My sister's new favorite thing to do/place to eat to remedy a hangover is the Russian Baths, for you NYC folk. (http://mousebouche.blogspot.com/2008/07/for-what-ails-you.html)
