The Most Unhealthy Thing You've Ever Made
My favorite potato-chip dip is one where I dump a carton of sour cream into a bowl, add an 8 oz package of sharp shredded cheddar cheese, season with garlic powder, onion powder, pepper and paprika to taste, put in fridge for 30-60 minutes, eat massive amounts piled on ruffled potato chips. My husband thinks this is the grossest thing ever and will not come near me when I make or eat it. He's probably right, but it's strangely addictive.
I suppose I could trick myself into believing that this is less fat-filled by using fat-free sour cream and baked chips, but it's not as delicious, nor does it probably matter.
The Burger Lab: The Fake Shack
@jp_bakeupastorm: I hear ya, I despise mayonnaise with a passion, too....but I accidentally ordered the Shack burger WITH sauce once and for some reason, probably because of the addition of all the extra components, i find the sauce delicious. It's the only mayonnaise-based sauce I can deal with. But I agree that the burger is just as good without the sauce.
Gadgets: Rival Crock Pot
oops, DIP, not dop. I don't know what "dop" might taste like. ;-)

Cook the Book: 'New Classic Family Dinners'
Layer sauerkraut in a casserole dish, place pork chops on top and season (I use cracked black pepper, garlic powder and smoked paprika), cover with lid or seal with foil, bake in 400 degree oven for 45 minutes. I like to make mashed potatoes with it, but have also just done steamed veggies on the side.

@Nikki: No, sadly no Little Dipper came with the timer-model...but fortunately I have one that I bought on its own about 13 years ago - and it's still going strong! I love to make chili-queso dop in mine.
Gadgets: Rival Crock Pot
I have nearly the same Rival crock-pot, but it has a press button function (warm, low, high) and a timer display that you can set at 30 minute increments. I believe it is also the 5-quart model, and it cost exactly the same price as the original pictured above (at Target). Plus mine is shiny red, hehe :-) In fact I am making pot roast in it right now! I love using it - especially in winter.

The Joys of Unnaturally Flavored Sodas
I am one of those Diet Coke addicts. However, we do have a pretty awesome NATURAL sparkling water - Klarbrunn - made here in Wisconsin. Just carbonated water and natural flavor. It doesn't have sweeteners, just a touch of lemon or lime or black cherry or raspberry, so it doesn't taste like someone poured a ton of sugar in it.
I don't like their "citrus" flavor though, without sweetener it tastes bitter. I think I'd rather have a Sprite or 7-Up than drink that flavor.
Cook the Book: 'Bobby Flay's Burgers, Fries & Shakes'
Like many others here, I am partial to Shake Shack (on the occasions I am in NYC), but in my current hometown of Madison, WI, there is a little locally-famous bar called the Blue Moon that serves delicious burgers. My favorite is the Blue Moon Burger which comes with blue cheese, garlic and raw onions. (I loathe onions - sorry - so I leave them off when ordering.) And you can order it medium rare too! Their fries are also crispy and delicious.

Burgers & Brew This Saturday in Middleton, Wisconsin
I was at Burgers & Brew last year. It's a great idea and it is fun! I was given free tickets from friends or I probably would not have gone....for Wisconsin, it's kind of pricey for my budget.
I felt that the veggie red-rice burger was way too dense and flavorless, and smothered in too much mayonnaisey sauce; the Lombardino quail egg burger (which they are reprising this year) was beautifully presented but just all right tastewise (mine was too overcooked overall for my liking), but I loved the Bluephie's burger with pickled vegetables. It was just the right blend of sweet and spicy. And it was sorta fun to walk around and try to pair up your burger with different kinds of local beers. The Sprecher sodas were pretty tasty too.
I'll be interested to hear the reports from this year's event.
Always nice to see a Midwestern mention (that isn't one of the bigger cities) here on AHT.
Sunday Brunch: Pan Fried Chicken Sandwich
Oh, this sounds SO delicious. One of my favorite things - chicken and biscuits! I think I know what I am making for lunches this week....
It Doesn't Taste Like Mom's
My mother has a way with vinagrette salad dressing. All she uses is olive oil, balsamic vinegar, grated parmesan and a few seasonings and for some reason it comes out tasting like magic on a simple cucumber-lettuce-tomato mix. I know exactly what she uses and how she mixes it and to this day I STILL cannot get it to taste like hers! It's almost frustrating!
Cook the Book: 'Tacos'
Back when I was in college, during summer session, our favorite Mexican restaurant stopped doing their all-you-can-eat $1 Taco Buffet during Tuesday happy hour because all of us broke young students found out about it and were basically cleaning out the buffet every week. I think the idea was that we were supposed to order copious expensive margaritas to go along with said buffet, but we were young and living on ramen noodles and didn't think of that at the time....sorry, happy buffet-goers! We didn't mean to make them shut it down!
Cook the Book: ''Wichcraft'
Red grapes, gorgonzola, romaine, walnuts and pears on challah, drizzled with balsamic. Maybe! I don't know if it would be delicious or disastrous but I would not mind finding out!
I also like a nice bruschetta on garlic bread....I'd leave it to the experts to upscale it. :)
What Do You Like to Read When Eating Solo?
One of my favorite pleasures in life is eating alone with my book - any book - at hand. I'm cursed with the feeling of self-consciousness as a solo diner - even though I'm very careful about the times I choose to be one, and careful not to overstay my welcome, I have met with a lot of discourteous service and rude glares in my time. Things have gotten better over the years, though, as restaurants in my area have become more single-diner friendly, so now there's not much need to feel uncomfortable.
I'm so glad so many others like to dine out with a good book too :)
Cook the Book: 'Kneadlessly Simple'
Onion Lovers' Twist. I am not sure where my mother got this recipe - probably Betty Crocker - but I actually loathe onions, and this bread is the only thing I really LIKE them in! The bread itself is a basic white yeast bread, filled with chopped onions, garlic, poppy seeds and butter, braided into a lovely twist loaf. Even if you accidentally overfill the three "braids," like I often do (oops), and the butter leaks out, it still makes for a wonderful buttery, flaky bread that is best eaten warm.
Dinner Tonight: Summer Panzanella
I made this last night. It was DELICIOUS. I used Italian bread instead of the baguette, but still, it was heavenly.
Thanks for posting the recipe.
Serious Eats City Guide Premiere: New York (How to Leave Here Pleasantly Full)
@Ed: I think most New Yorkers might be over the Shake Shack burger - am I alone here? There is an amazing burger down in FiDi at a hotel bar - I would definitely add it to the list - at The Libertine..
