What Was Your Favorite School Cafeteria Food?

My best friend Hayley and I would have daily competitions who could find the biggest soft pretzel in the cafeteria. They were soft and salty and absolutely delicious. I miss those more than most of the curriculum!

Locanda Verde: The Best Breakfast in New York?

What's odd is that it may be the best breakfast ever, however, the menu looks rather commonplace. I've seen mostly all of the items featured on other menus before. The lemon ricotta pancakes sound delicious though.

If you had a food cart/truck...

I'd definitely have a van that sold hot chocolate during the winter and an iced coffee during the summer. I have perfected the art of making a great hot chocolate, and everyone can agree that nothing is more comforting during the harsh winter. Also, there are so many variations of iced coffees I would have to work hard to concoct new types of flavorful syrups to make mine different from the rest.

The coconut tiger shrimp num pang is AMAZING, as is the catfish. I would recommend both!

The Original Muffin Top Tin

This muffin top pan has been around for a while now. I was looking into buying one last year, it took me some time but I ended up finding them at a Gourmet Cooking Store in the King of Prussia Mall. I like the tops the most, they aren't as dense and I like the crispy rim of them too.

Handicapping 'Top Chef' Season 5 Finale

I think it's between Carla and Stefan- I think Stefan may win but I'd prefer to Carla to knock it out of the park. Lately, Carla's dishes have been far superior to both of the men, so we'll have to wait and see tomorrow night- I can't wait!

TAB!
I grew up with this soda. My mother literally has our local grocery store order her packs of TAB every single week. No one else really drinks them other than her so it's more like we walk up to the manager's office and ask for our special case. I LOVE this soda- I don't know whether it's because it immediately evokes countless childhood memories or merely because it's still a unique Diet Cola. The TAB Energy is disgusting though, they should stick to what they know. And in terms of Capri Sun? What a great juice. I used to drink three of these daily; thank you for mentioning these childhood favorites; I'll be going tonight to pick up some Gushers, TAB, and Capri Suns!

Serious Eats City Guide: Boston

Thank you for including Sunset Grille- it's a really good, cheap find in the middle of Boston University's campus that is ADORED by locals/BU students. Also, Eastern Standard definitely has a great brunch... I'd suggest it for their cocktail/happy hour as well- pretty solid. In terms of B & G Oysters and No 9. Park I have yet to go, but I am eagerly awaiting my parent's arrival for Parent's Weekend so they can cover the costs!

Reviewed: New Hershey's Kisses Pumpkin Spice

I haven't tried the Pumpkin flavored kiss but yesterday, however, I came across another new flavor- Candy Corn? I have no idea if anyone's tried it but I am very curious how well Hershey's can pull off Candy Corn Flavored Kisses!

Num Pang Sandwich Shop: What's in a Name? A Lot, As It Turns Out

Times must be touch; they're cutting back on the amount of grated carrots, cucumbers and cilantro they put on the sandwiches. I think I got 5 strips of grated carrot on the Veal Meatball Sandwich .. none of th emeatballs were sliced in half ... it looked like the guy just threw the stuff on the bread, flipped over the top half of the sandwich, stuck it in a styrofoam box and handed it to me. I was pleased with the taste of the meatballs but the sandwich I got was nothing like the one pictured above!

What Was Your Favorite School Cafeteria Food?

in my high school we had 4 stations and a decent amount of options, yet i would only get 5 things - ever! friday was pizza day and i would always dip my pizza in the mini salad and dressing it came with.
wed was chicken ranchero day - chicken patty topped with bacon, american cheese and the obligatory lettuce and tomato slice and you top it yourself with ranch dressing on a kaiser roll and it usually came with baked mac and cheese - the line on wed was always rediculously long!
the other days i had a bagel with cream cheese, fries and an arizona iced tea. or cheese nachos loaded with toppings (i don't eat beef) or a cheese sandwich on a kaiser as i have always been adverse to lunch meat.
i am very surprised i have normal cholesterol these days - i can't imagine what it was back then...although growing up in a vegetarian household my other meals must have cancelled out the cholesterol loaded fest during the school week.

So wonderful to have so many fellow writers! I actually have two blogs to share. One is my personal blog: www.thedilettantista.wordpress.com which covers, well, EVERYTHING, cooking, restaurants, movies, etc. I started it this summer when I was living in New York City for an internship, so it is especially heavy on NYC eating.

I am also a contributing writer to Carpe Durham, a food blog that focuses on eating in Durham, North Carolina. The blog was started a few years ago by Duke law students, and I am a newer writer. The blog is a great source if you live in the Triangle area!
