Beat the Heat: Braving Thai Chile at Sripraphai

Sripraphai is probably the best Thai restaurant in the city, but if you're looking for the spiciest, walk about 10-12 blocks from there to either Nusara or Chao Thai. Both are much hotter than Srip.

The Food Super Bowl โ€” Boston vs. New York: No Contest

Ed is right. There is no comparison here. Boston should try to compare their food to KC or some place like that. To even mention the two places in the same breath is giving Boston way too much credit.

Chris Schlesinger Gets Saucy

I'm very happy I saw this article. Inner Beauty was my favorite hot sauce and I've tried for sometime to find it or a replacement. I finally decided to just make it myself. My question is this though. There is another recipe on the internet so I was wondering why there is this difference? The other recipe is:

* 12 fresh habanero chiles
* 1 ripe mango, or equivalent frozen (I use half a bag of Trader Joe's frozen mango)
* 1 cup cheap yellow mustard
* 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
* 1/4 cup white vinegar
* 1 T curry powder
* 1 T ground cumin
* 1 T chili powder
* salt and pepper to taste

So which one should I make?

Best Fried Chicken Joints in NYC

Ed, you have to update your list here. Rack & Soul's fried chicken was nowhere near one of the best in the city. It wasn't bad, but it was very average to say the most.

I must give a non-NYC fried chicken tip to everyone though. If you ever find yourself in or near Nashville, TN, go to Prince's Hot Chicken. It is truly amazing fried chicken (and really hot).

New York's Three Best Steakhouses

What about Strip House? After going to many of the best steak houses in NYC, that is right up there with my favorite steak.

New York's Three Best Steakhouses

I have had the pleasure of eating at Keens and rank that as my personal best. It is a steakhouse in the true sense of the word, dark, wood paneling, history and a very attentive staff. Any time I had to quench a thirst at the bar there was always someone willing to have a chin wag.

The Food Super Bowl โ€” Boston vs. New York: No Contest

Each city/region has its strong points (and I lived 22 years in the New York area and 17 in Massachusetts). New York has much better bread and rolls (New England Italian and French bread and bulkie rolls are just different shapes of Wonder Bread!) I also never once found a decent chocolate cake in either a bakery or a restaurant there; they don't know how to make a decent milk chocolate, butter cream icing. And, in general, New York has better pizza, although Boston Pizzeria Regina is very good. Both do an equally good job with beef and good French food. Where New England excels, however, is with sea food. After 17 years in New England, I cannot eat seafood anywhere else without being disappointed! Great chowder, and in particular, fried clams.

New York's Three Best Steakhouses

Try BLT Steak, while it is not a hardcore Steakhouse in the tradition of a Smith & Wollenskys or Peter Luger, it is a great Steakhouse with reasonable prices. You can do the Porterhouse, but the Butcher's Cut is also worthy of praise, which oddly you don't find too often in the NYC Steakhouse Universe.
