Yes, that well kept secret of tacos. A crunchy taco shell.

Microplane. I don't get to use it all the time but I feel so chef-y when doing so.
At first I was like...Hey! Where's the beets? And then I read the post and realized they were those gorgeous yellow kind. Beets are a much varied and beautiful thing.
I caught the show here and there when nothing else was on...she seemed like the best of the bunch to me, but really, it wasn't exactly an incredibly high bar to jump over. I guess having a contest full of disasters is better TV than having everyone do well.
I have two WF stores very near me for most of my work and school. I go for lunch and usually cringe at what I pay, but I find that I can still cook meals for multiple people at home affordably and with good quality ingredients. It's just that damn salad bar at lunch that kills me, I can spend $9 for lunch on myself or $15 for an awesome dinner at home for 4 people.
I'd probably pick Paula, not because I think it would be the best meal possible, but just because she seem so personable and I probably wouldn't freak out or be intimidated by her, haha. Like I would love to have Mario come over but I'd probably be a mess.
Totally cliche and yet still totally true: there are pizzas, and there is Pepe's. The original in New Haven is still like something else entirely, something that transcends pizza-dom and just becomes something so delicious it's almost other worldly. I turn into a drooling, inarticulate eating machine as soon as I enter the doors.
I took this yesterday and got 16/20.
And then my buddy the cereal fiend got a 16/20. Hrmm.
I don't think I'd care. There's enough other things to worry about, I might find it slightly annoying or something but I doubt it would really bother me.
What did used to drive me nuts was in school. There was a class I took a few years ago, one of my classmates ate a full meal every other class. It was crazy. I mean have some snacks or a soda or whatever but she would come to class with containers full Mexican takeout. Totally distracting.
I just bought a pint from Lyman Orchard near me. I think a Blueberry Buckle is going to be good for half of them.
Raphael, you're dancing around the SE offices right now, jamming to that video...
Aren't you? lol
Hey now, wait a damn minute! Hamm's "taco double twist" is a blatant rip-off of Taco Bell's "Double Decker Taco". I demand this commercial be removed from the Internet, and never aired on TV, or I will sue for taco copyright infringement. ;)
YTMND got to it: Makes my taco pop.
^^ JK by the way.
This is really insane. I can't believe this is on Serious Eats.
My cousin, a professional chef, makes a salad of roasted red and yellow beets with Spanish manchebo cheese (not manchego, this is different--get it at Whole Foods or Wegman's), drizzled with a balasamic vinegar reduction. Beautiful and delicious.
@joanpieroni - we have beautiful candy stripe beets right here in ny state.... but maybe it's easier to get them shipped from california.
migliorelli farm in dutchess county grows the candystripe, along with white and yellow beets. all varieties are extremely delicious.
your salad sounds delicious btw. love the combination of orange & olive oil myself.
microplane zester, instant read thermometer, short-blade extremely sharp paring knife, a whetstone that was my dad's, an assortment of bamboo spatulas/spoons/stirring devices and...AND...a tiny silicone spatula that's perfect for easy-overing a fried egg for one.
I watched the whole season of The Next Food Network Star, and thought either Lisa or Adam deserved to win. When Aaron won I was blown away. His first episode was lousy and not innovative AT ALL! At least Lisa and Adam brought something different to the table...Lisa's class and expertise and Adam's fun-loving goofy-hip talent. Lisa is the kind of person I would watch, just to aspire to her level. Sure, she's a little odd but interesting and intelligent. I like the quirkiness of her fine clothes and super type A personality. I'd also watch Adam because he's so darn entertaining. I hope the FN doesn't stomp out his personality by giving him a stupid show concept. I think he had the chops to do a cooking show, even if Bobby Flay didn't "believe" in his culinary knowledge. (Bobby is the self appointed all-knowing food God or something!) Go Adam! And as for Lisa, she' probably too classy for the FN anyway.
My rasp (zester/grater), stand mixer, food processor, cheesecloth, salad spinner, vegetable brush, ice cream freezer, and whisk are all important to me!
