New York Times on Dirty Food
I ate fried cicadas (with garlic & hot peppers) in Thailand, lovingly prepared by my sister-in-law. Un-fried bug parts in my granola sounds healthier. My only suggestion...stop reading about it. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss.
What did you end up eating or serving for the Super Bowl?
I was at a party with a couple dozen other football fans, watching on a giant screen. I brought recipe-girls peanut butter cup brownies...to die for! Unfortunately everybody else brought pedestrian, ho-hum stuff. Frozen this, overcooked that. Leathery chicken wings, cream cheese blocks with jelly dumped on top. Boxes of crackers...like saltines. Cubes of cheese. The brownies were a huge hit. They were the only sweet. Had to eat leftovers when we got home. We were hungry!
Worst Food You Ate at a Party
My MIL asked me what I would like for my birthday dinner. Prime Rib! Love rare prime rib. So she went out and bought the biggest hunk-a-love she could find. Spent a fortune I'm sure (and this was in the '70's). That night, at the table, she proudly delivered...pot roast. Yep, she had pot-roasted that lovely cut of meat. Well, it was tender.
Another...while attending a family reunion in Michigan, after a decade in New Orleans, my 7 year old whispered to me, "What's wrong with the food? It has no taste." Since then we travel with mini bottles of Tabasco.

Cook the Book: 'Almost Meatless'
I recently made a great black bean chowder, topped with a dollop of sour cream. Yummy, and no meat.

I always make____for the holidays, because my Grandma did
Kuguli...it isn't the holidays without Kuguli. It's a potato kugel made by hand grating peeled potatoes (mustn't cheat and use a food processor! We use Grandma's ancient grater that has knicked plenty of knuckles) with eggs, evap milk, lots of butter and bacon grease. Served with applesauce & sour cream. It's our family tradition.

Cook the Book: 'Simple Italian Snacks'
Fresh veggies and/or fruit with some kind of dip. Fresh herbs if possible, in the dip, plus crackers, breadsticks or toast rounds. I like to do "different" veggies & fruit tho...not just carrot stix and celery. Maybe dilled green beans or slices of raw turnip...star fruit, fresh pineapple, strawberries drizzled with balsamic. We get chipped & dipped to death!

Worst Food You Ate at a Party
This may not be the worst food I ever had but it's a good story. When I was a kid, my grandmother made Thanksgiving dinner. She always has been a very tidy housekeeper. She took extra care about making sure there was never a time when she did not have plenty of mothballs in all her closets. I love her but her house always smells of that awful mothball stench. (She'll be 90 next month!) Where did she stash the extra loaves of bread she bought a few days early for the stuffing? You guessed it. The hall closet. Ah, the aroma and taste of sage, onion and mothball............
Worst Food You Ate at a Party
How about defrosted dips and cheeseball and lil smokys frozen from a previous party. Oh my god served in the plastic bowl they were frozen in. These same people serve left over breakfast stuff at brunches, ever had leftover frozen omelet , um yummy!! gotta get rid of these penny pinchen people out of the group !!!!!!! Yeh Gads! can you believe
