Cook the Book: 'Real Cajun'

Making confetti cake with my grandma. She'd put drops of food coloring into the cake, and when you sliced it, it was perfect dots of color.

Cook the Book: 'The Modern Baker'

Worst failure: a lemon tart. It wasn't tart, as that's what happens when one puts the correct amount of sugar in the lemon part. LOL...I've learned to read the recipe closely!

I'd like to give myself a personal culinary reward for _____

Soup! And even though I've heard folks say that soup is about the easiest thing in the world to cook, I have had some HORRID soup in my time (and I'm all of 22!) The best one? I make some of the creamiest potato soup ever; it's a favorite around the house.

Is there one dish that you simply are unable to master?

Gravy, even though it's more of a condiment than a dish. Doesn't matter how I do it, or the recipe I use..it's either going to be too thick (i.e: cut with knife) or too thin (i.e: gravy soup). Just terrible. And I really love a good sausage gravy on my biscuits for breakfast!

I eat ____ with cottage cheese

I like my cottage cheese spooned over scrambled eggs, then sprinkled with pepper. At least I do for breakfast. Any other time, I like it with pineapple.

Small curd, no preference for fat content. I'll take anything from full to 1%. I like the biggest tub of cottage cheese one can find...only because I know I don't have to share, and can eat as much as I like.

Cooking Through the New Year

Wow, your resolution sounds a lot like mine. Because I'm the "weird" one in the house (as in, I'll try new foods at least once), nobody ever wants to try the recipes I pull from Gourmet or Bon Appetit.

But this year, I will be. Good luck...and I'm hoping your dishes turn out delicious!

Holiday Dinner - Hits and Misses

My turkey tenderloin (seasoned with lemon, garlic, and fresh herbs) managed to come out way too salty. *sigh* I didn't even use very much salt at all.

But my chocolate chess pie (found on Gourmet) came out lovely! I added walnuts and did a cinnamon whipped cream on top. Delicious!

Ooh, aah: Holiday gifts

*quiet whisper* I gotta KitchenAid too...

And a Barnes and Nobles gift card too. My mom says she wanted me to be able to pick out the cookbooks I wanted.

My fondest childhood memory is the burgers my grandpa used to cook. He was a cook on the iron ore boats back in the day and he made one mean burger. Delicious.

I used to love when we'd get boiled crab and just run through them. We moved from New Orleans and there isn't a place to get them anymore.

My fondest childhood food memory was Thanksgiving at Grammy's house. Though Grammy was not much of a cook and we would have canned gravy, instant mashed potatoes, canned sweet potatoes and in those days, (late 60's) none of those products were good. But, eventhough the food stunk, we still had a good time. Thanks for a great giveaway.
PS: Sorry Grammy, I'm sure your a first rate chef for the angels.

Growing up we often had cake or pie for breakfast. It wasn't untill I went to college that I realized it was a bit outside the norm. But It hasnt stopped me from continuing to enjoy the tradition.

My favourite memory from childhood is every year we woud have the whole family come over for hot-pot. It was such and exciting time and a variety of food as each member would bring something different for the hot-pot. It was a surprise to see what would be cooking.

About: I'm an aspiring teacher and writer who loves to read about good food almost as much as I love cooking and eating it!

Favorite foods: Wow. I don't have enough room to write everything, but, ice cream (any flavor), ciabatta bread, watermelon, strawberries, avocados, roasted chicken, olives, mozzarella cheese, and chocolate name a few. Mmm...chocolate....*drool*

Last bite on earth: Ah man. I'd have to say my last bite on earth would have to be from a bowl of my mother's chicken and dumplings. That dish is amazing..especially with a freshly baked biscuit with butter.
