"Not so much about the meat"? Dude, there's three cuts of meat on your burger!

Still, fascinating. This is like when I learned about the Ramly Burger from I Eat, I Shoot, I Post--definitely cool to find out about burgers from far-off lands!

Pepe's: Coming to a College Town Near You?

Yeah, that's an important point. Fond as I am of Paul Revere's, I'm pretty sure virtually every time we ended up there we were out of our heads in some way or another. Pepe's only needs to serve edible pizza in college towns to make a buck.

Pepe's: Coming to a College Town Near You?

My experiences with college pizza are limited to Paul Revere's, the little Des Moines dive much loved for its insanely cheap pies and addictive garlic breadsticks; and, of course, ordering discounted pizzas from Papa John's. I would have loved a Pepe's, even if it was a chain store.

I disagree about Chipotle, though. Only thing that impresses me about that chain is the cheap margaritas. Margaritas? In a fast food joint? We are living in the enlightened future.

Which City Has the Best Pizza?

Hmm...much as I just want to shout Chicago! from the rooftops, I don't think you can really compare the Deep-Dish--which Chicago IS the freakin' best at--to, say, the ultra-thin Roman pizzas.

But hell, who wants complexity in this already complex world?

Chicago!

I'm disappointed to hear it's so terrible, though. I have a soft spot for Dominos, given that you don't encounter much good pizza growing up in Chicago's northern suburbs...ah well. Maybe I'll just make one of these.

I've had pizza all over the country and the best, by far, is Mack & Manco Pizza in Ocean City, NJ. Pepe's in New Haven, CT is very good but Mack & Manco is the best in the country. Anyone know of a good Philly/New York style pizza in Columbus, OH ????

McDonald's Angus Third Pounder

I had the Bacon Angus Burger the other night on my way home form the golf course. I would much rather have a burger from Hardee's. I think they are far superior. I admit that McDonald's Angus burger is the best thing on their menu, but I still would go across the street for something else.

From A Hamburger Today

McDonald's Angus Third Pounder

I just ordered the Bacon Angus burger and took one bite and noticed it was cold. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the burger was not cooked all the way. I took another bite just to see if it was the outer perimeter, but the middle was even bloodier. I don't mind rare meat, but not with hamburger meat, especially fast food hamburger meat. I tried calling the Micky D's I ordered from, but no one answered. I took the extra time out of my lunch and drove back to the location. I spoke to the manager and she agreed that it was not thoroughly cooked. She offered me a new sandwich, but I felt at that point a new sandwich for all my trouble was not enough. The only thing she said she could offer me was my money back. I took the money. I will say the first time I tried the mushroom n swiss, which was good, but make sure that when you order this thing it comes cooked.

Three Best Burgers in the U.S.: No Agreement Anywhere

I live right between EARL, Ann's Snack Bar, and the Vortex. Personally I like the EARL best of the lot. I travel a lot and eat burgers a lot and search out sites like these to find favorites; and still, of all of them, the EARL's a fav.

I love that place in Le Parker Meridien, though. ;)

Three Best Burgers in the U.S.: No Agreement Anywhere

I work in a restaurant in a small town in Texas, Greek Bros. I have to say the flat Mushroom Jack Burger or the Cheddar Bacon Cheddar Burger there are among the best I have ever eaten. The burgers are 1/2 pound of meat, each, and the meat is from a local meat market. They cost $10 each, a plain cheeseburger is $7.00. I doubt any "burger crtio" is going to ever come to a town of 12,000 people in south Texas, so all I can say is that I agree that they can't claim that their picks are the best in the USA.

Kansas City Backyard Pizza Oven

We also built a backyard pizza oven ourselves. It took us about five months to complete, and cost a bit more than Andy (we built it as part of an outdoor "kitchen"), but we LOVE it!!! We not only do LOTS of pizzas, but also great cowboy steaks, focaccia breads, and pots of beans or soups. It's a great place to experiment with fun cooking options!

Whataburger (the Texas chain)

I love hamburgers and never miss a chance to try a new one and never had a hamburger I didn't like. I read about hamburgers from all over the world.

But I never enjoy any hamburger at any price as much as a Whataburger. If I eat a Whataburger and nothing else I don't care if I eat another thing the rest of the day.

In-N-Out Coming to NYC?

Hmmm... A lifelong Angeleno, while in college, I had two 6 month internships in NYC, both in the City, and I lived in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn with a view of ocean. So I don't know if they're ready for this kind of West Coast invasion, but should it come to pass, can I order my burger "protein style" like I do here( for those left in the lurch, it means that INO subs large leaves of iceberg lettuce for their bread bun).

I have been eating in that same "carrito" for over 16 years, I started going there when I was in high school in Caracas. Now I live in NYC and every time I go back to Caracas this is A MUST stop on my trip.
By far the best burgers, YES they are chicken burgers in the planet and pretty sure anyother galaxy near.
The 16+ years of business can vouche for that, but the real secret is not the burger itself, I have tried to make it at home and it can be done, the real kicker is the sauce, that special sauce they have. Once you soak the burger in that sauce you are in burger heaven.
A big shout out to all the "panitas" de Ariana, el jorge, el gori, el rafa, and the rest of the clan.

Which City Has the Best Pizza?

This is all really silly. Pizza is Pizza. I don't care what kind it is, Pizza is just plain fun to eat, and what's wonderful about it, is that there are so many different styles out there. It has a lot of variety, and I totally dig that about pizza. It is singly my favorite fast food. Whether you are from Chicago (Which I am), New York or Italy, at it's core is a fun food to eat. I absolutely love Deep Dish Pizza, like Gino's East, but I don't eat that all the time. I actually also like thin crust pizza's and generally I think most Chicagoans eat thin crust more often than not. I've had pizza in New York and although the flavors are different, it's still very good. If nothing else, it has the novelty of being new. I've always liked the fact that when you order a whole pizza in new york, it comes in pie shaped slices. Here, we do the square shaped slices, producing more pieces. The deep dish pizza is my favorite style, because you are just stuffed by it. The crust is so thick and crunchy that it's a major part of the experience. They tend to be monster sized, but two slices of that, small slices, will fill you up completely. They also use very fresh produce, producing what I've always thought were exceptionally flavorful pizza. To me this is pointless to make it a contest, because pizza is meant to be shared and enjoyed. Instead of focusing on the "who's best" angle, I'd rather appreciate the fact we are so lucky for the large variety of styles out there. Pizza is never boring because of this variety we all get to enjoy really good pizza anywhere we go. I'm sure New Yorkers can appreciate our thick crust pizzas.

Glad that South America's getting covered. One of the best burgers i've had was at a Colombian chain called El Corral Gourmet (here's a link to thier website http://elcorral.com/gourmet.htm) Their burgers use top quality beef grilled to order with some great combinations. My favorite one was a double burger with a split argentinian chorizo on top, topped with chimichurri sauce!

I've seen a lot of derivations on burgers on this site and a few times when the food being discussed seems to cross into a gray area where I'm not sure if it qualifies as a burger, but this time I can say with out a doubt...that is not a burger! No way. Your guest writer is using the word "burger" in place of "sandwich". I'll accept what ever topping one wants to put on a cooked ground meat patty as a burger, but for god sakes...there is no patty there to being with. tsk. tsk.
