Dinner Tonight: Salmon Burgers

I too use the pink salmon, an egg and [italian seasoned] bread crumbs - fry in slight oil and bravo! a perfectly moist on the inside, crunch on the outside salmon patty. You definitely do not taste the filler - and mayo is not used because it just is not in my nature to fry mayo in anything.

Easiest thing to make, especially if you use the salmon that is in the smaller cans with no skin/bones to pick out.

I love the mashed potato idea sandn8r9 I am trying that next!!!

There used to be a place [and forgive me I can't remember the name] that served fresh, sliced turkey with all the fixings - gravy, mashed taters, cranberry sauce or just turkey sandwiches - it was amazing! But it doesn't exist anymore :( It was neat to watch them carve whole, roasted turkeys!

My second choice would be Steak and Potato for the baked potatoes with fixings or Sbarro b/c our local mall has the greatest people working there and the pizza is always so yum!

So NOW they are trying to hide? That seems pretty silly. I like the idea of the add-ons, but to rename and re logo everything? Dumb.

I'd never bought canned salmon before until this week for this recipe, does it always come with skin and bones?? I thought it would be like tuna. Trying to extricate all the tiny bones was really frustrating and the burgers turned out incredibly dry and bland. Wish I'd used fresh!

BTW--I highly doubt anyone is going to find Atlantic salmon that isn't farmed.

I just got back from fishing in Alaska with about 100lbs of king salmon filets, just not ready to chop it up and and disguise the salmon I'll be doing that after a couple months in the freezer and the freshness fades. For now it's a filet of salmon on sourdough bread a smear of homemade dill aioli and some crisp lettuce nothing more.
On a side note got a 56lb king salmon with white meat it's a bit milder kinda between salmon and halibut in flavor but still loaded with omega-3's and other essential fats and oils, some claim it has more fats and oils but I'll leave that to some anal retentive nutrishionist, to me it tastes good.

Love these--my mom used to call them "salmon patties" and we ate them without the bun. Lately, I make them for buns. She used the same basic recipie, but always added finely chopped celery and onion to the canned salmon. An egg, some breadcrumbs (I use panko now that they are readily available), and a little mayo to hold them all together. Without the bun, we didn't care if they fell apart, but with all that they hold together pretty well now. We always cook them in butter--not real good for you but it gives the salmon an even richer flavor. Crisp on the outside, flaky on the inside. Sounds like dinner tonight!

If anyone finds out where the 3 are, please post it. It was not clear to me that all would have the same name. The "15th Avenue" is over on Capitol Hill, yes? But there wasn't other info.

I live in SEattle. Until recently I drank at Starbucks as I like their coffee. However, since the one shop nearest me (which isn't very near) is 2 blocks from a Peet's, I'll go there. Otherwise, it's the one in the grocery store. I have a choice of at LEAST seven independent coffee places within something like a half mile, I'll survive. I do NOT like manipulation. I do NOT like fakery. This reminds me of those damn cigarettes that were marketed as if they were made by a guy in his back yard.

Anyone want to start a pool on how long this new sad idea will survive?

I Can't Believe It's Yogurt!, mostly for the name.

Is this un-branding? I live in Seattle, and I can only suspect that they are trying to fool customers into thinking that they are a cozy little independent espresso joint just like the ones in my neighborhood here in the Greenwood District.

It's ludicrous!

Roli Boli for the Deli Boli. Not sure if there are any more around but it was a favorite growing up in NJ. Also, I Can't Believe it's Yogurt - used to work there and it was so good.

they may create a lot of jobs, but they aren't *good* jobs. they get a lot of good press for their policy of "full time benefits for part time work" but actually have quietly changed their policy to no longer hire anyone for over 12 hours a week, or under 34 hours, effectively eliminating the part time benefits employees.
it doesn't strike me as remotely out of corporate character for them to sneak in and try to steal back everyone who left for greener, more independent pastures.
in case you hadn't guessed, i'm a former "partner," let go for blowing the whistle on a manager who was a serial sexual harasser.
there is just nothing clean about this company, and they don't deserve a dime of your money.

Waffle fries from Chick-fil-A, but only on the East Coast. I also love Hana Grill or whatever little place does teriyaki bowls. Annie's pretzels with honey mustard dip are my favorite late afternoon snack.

I was raised on this as a kid. It also goes really well with cheese grits and sauteed spinach. I only recently started incorporating mayo into my recipe though but it makes a heck of a difference. I also added crushed red pepper flakes and generous amounts of Old Bay. That's some good eatin' there boy!

@SkippyMom I think you might be thinking of Cranberry Farms. I think they only exist in college dining halls now.

From what I've heard, it seems like they are doing more than just rebranding the shop. They are actually trying to remake it with independent shop touches. Apparently, they actually blatantly sent spies into successful independent shops to take notes.

I suppose it could be a good idea if they put unique and individual thought into each different store, but I doubt they can really manage that given the number of Starbuck shops there are.

When I was little, I would go back-to-school shopping with my mom, and our treat at the end of the day was to split a Cinnabon cinnamon roll ... it was a big highlight! Auntie Anne's cinnamon sugar pretzels and slices from Pizzeria Regina are also favorites.

Shrimp salad at Ivar's at the Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham...or the fish tacos at Tres Hermanos in the same mall. Sigh.

I think it's manipulative. They're pretending to be independent to fool people who would otherwise avoid their chain. I go out of my way to support local business, and I don't like being tricked.

Besides, no amount of rebranding will fix Starbucks' terribly bitter, overroasted coffee.

wow, I actually think this is quite a good idea. I mean, if there's going to be a fun coffee shop to hang out in that has community outreach and varied products, as well as good coffee, i'm there! it's very difficult for "real" mom+pop locations to survive nowadays with big chains dominating the market (and it's NOT just starbucks - dunkin donuts is a far greater curse in my opinion). far better for starbucks to try to rebrand to reach a different part of the market than not to do so if the customer wants it. it's sillier to pine for the days before large corporations than to just accept their existence and appreciate that their executives are trying to find a way to become less behemoth-like.

i haven't been to a mall in years but i usually went with hot sams or taco bell..or ditched the food court altogether and got a sundae at the sit-down friendly's that seemed to be in every upstate ny mall.

@Michele Humes - I totally know what you mean! I interned in Hong Kong for two months in the winter, and both subway stations (the one by my house and the one by my work) had a Mrs. Fields stand. I was always SO tempted to treat myself to a cookie after work, but couldn't spoil dinner!

In terms of my usual food court pick, it has to be Veggirama/Choices. They usually have a delicious veggie lasagna which I pair with beet salad and some other salad (pasta, tabbouleh, fruit, whatever mood I'm in) So good and makes me feel less guilty about eating at a food court (haha!)

From Serious Eats

What's Your Favorite Food Court Stop?

It's not so much that I like the cookies, but I love the way Mrs. Fields smells. When I was growing up in Hong Kong, the subway station closest to my house had a Mrs. Fields stand, and even before you entered the station, you'd be hit with the warm smell of baking cookies...
