Shamrock Shake Returns to Select McDonald's, But Disappoints This Year

Had one a couple days ago. Minty goodness, as always. I did get the whipped cream and cherry with mine, but it was offered. I could have told them not to put it on there. Really though? It is whipped fat and a maraschino cherry. How can you pass that up? Scoop 'em off with a spoon and just eat them separate like I did.

By the way, creme de menthe and peppermint schnapps is the way to go when adultifying one from McDs or when creating your own blend. It gives it the nice color, as well as the kick you are looking for.

I am always leary of burger places that feel an obsessive need to name the source of every ingriedient they use. I realize it is the in thing right now, which is why it always comes across as some kind gimmicky, hipster bs. My initial reaction to seeing the opening burger pic was, "what in the hell is that thing on top of the burger?" The mushroom may taste good, but that burger is unappealing visually. Really both of the burgers look kinda gross. The only thing that looks good is the fries, and they sounded like the worst part of the meal.

I remember going to the Ground Round for burgers as a kid. The best part was that they had free, roasted-in-the-shell peanuts and they let you throw the shells right on the floor. I don't recall slips and falls ever being an issue.

Skip the nothing-special fries in favor of one of the salads. You mention the shoestring fries, but I am curious why they are nothing special. You recommend going with the salad instead, but your description of the salad, "which is really just a handful of iceberg lettuce doused in the dressing of your choice, topped with a few grape tomatoes." seems to be nothing special as well. Did you try the bean salad or coleslaw?
