My most horrible baking experience happens to involve a red velvet box mix I was baking for my dad's birthday. First the bag split when I tried to open it and got red dust everywhere, then my batter over flowed everywhere in the oven causing another great red mess and no cake! Poo Dad!

I love GR!!! My BF lives on Lake Dr. ( although not for much longer) and we love Brandwine!!! Best breakfast out there. The sushi joint downtown on Monroe is second to none...seriously grandma roll and salmon skin roll, unfortunately I do not know it's name. For great Italian go to Pietro's on 28th, you will die and go to heavan. Last but not least Russ's is great of for comforty food, although they are originally from Holland,MI and have locations around Kzoo, Holland, and GR.
Oh and check out Russo's on 29th street for some good grocery shopping, great cheese and wine selection. They also have an amazing deli with some family specialties and more family specialties in the freezer section http://www.gbrusso.com/

It's hard to pick just one, but I would have to say it would be my father's apple omlets topped with sharp cheddar cheese. He would only make them on Christmas morning, I would beg him year round for them and maybe get him to crack once in the middle of summer, but not always. He taught me how to make them, but they're still not the same as his and since my parents divorced it's no longer a Christmas tradition, just whenever I can beg him or he uses it as a bargining chip to get me to visit. Speaking of I should mention that to him.

Dinner in Grand Rapids???
XO downtown has great range of southeastern oriental food in a highr class setting with breaking the wallet
across the street is a great sushi place that I am unsure of the name, but my BF and I got there for most important ocassions
Russ's, a lot of older people eat there, but they have great home cooking. Their meatloaf is great and they have a decent clam chowder on Friday and Saturdays. There's one on 28th st
Brandywine on Lake Dr. one of my favorite finds they are a breafast lunch place so they close early, but they do it right. They have great sweet potato pancakes and make their hollandaise from scratch.
And if I remember correctly there is a Jamacian place on cherry or weathly I wanna say its called Jamacian Dave's but I'm not sure, this one is on my list of yet to try
I do not which street, but the Ritz Coney has great hot dogs and is across from the Van Andel arena.
I am up there rather frequently both my father and BF live in the area, I am actually going up this weekend and can't wait!

Blogwatch: Culinary Fool's Maple Cream Cookies
A recent visitor from Las Vegas brought me Maple Cream Cookies (by Manning) and they were fantastic. She tells me they are available at 99 cent stores in the Vegas area. I have found the Dare Maple Creams at Walmart, but I don't think they are as good as the Manning brand.
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
The Deen Boys, Bobby and Jaime, are adorable! They got my vote!
City Flavor Guide: Grand Rapids
GR has come a long way from the days when the best place to eat was Charlie's Crab. Cool places like the Green Well and Winchester's serve up great food. The Electric Cheetah has sandwich's and soup are already putting the EC at the top of the list. Marie Catrib's and the Real Food Cafe never fail to please. Both restaurants are smoke free and get it right every time for breakfast and lunch.
For real GR old timers the Beltline Bar and Yesterdog are the places to go. I have to differ with those that sing their praises. They are unique. However, they aren't good. The food has the consistency of gerber.
For the "gut bomb" crowd. (Think Diners Drive-in's and Dives) The Choo Choo, Fat Boys, The Cottage, Teasers, The Wealthy Street Station and Sandmann's will all give you your fix of artery clogging joy.

If there's a hands down, all around winner - and I'm not saying there is - it's Alton Brown. He's smart. He's creative. He's talented . And he's adorable. .

I thought it was a guilty pleasure of mine to play with this game when I first got it then I realized a whole bunch of guys I knew were playing it! Who knew it would become such a big hit after 2 years!
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
Aarón Sánchez is just perfect.... he is so funny, talented, and down to business... I love his laugh... and the serious face he pulls on "Chopped" when he has to judge. I wish him the best. xoxox

I consistently hear Cooking Mama music in my head while doing tasks in the kitchen at pastry school. And I always hear the little "bwooop" sound when I pipe things. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in the class with this affliction.
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
Arron Sanchez is my choice. So cute and adorable. He's the highlight of chef vs. city :D
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
i'll be the single vote for george duran, i guess.
he's just so damn cuddly.
i miss 'ham on the street.'
'secret life of' is just so crappy.
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
Tyler Florence used to be my fav FN hottie then he got puffy. Strangely I find Adam Richman on Travel channel's man vs food to be sexy and hes definitely on the beefy side but a cutie none the less. Id also have to say Iron Chef Symon with his soul patch.
Grocery Ninja: What to Do With Condensed Milk
My favorite recipe consists of a couple of spoonfulls of sugar, condensed milk and 7up.
Put the sugar in a tall glass add some condensed milk. Stir the mixture and then add the 7up or coca-cola.

Another vote for Bourdain...
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
Wow, first of all I have to say lay off Tyler for gaining weight. Holy crap ladies, you would not tollerate those kind of comments about a woman.
When I first started watching Emeril I thought he was very sexy/cute. The major determining factor for me is definately personality-- I love Guy Fieri, and I soooooooo love Duff Goldman! These are guys you know would be fun in and out of the kitchen! While Bobby Flay, Curtis Stone and the like are very physically attractive, they lack personality big-time. I think Ramsay is great too-- he is all fire! And isn't this poll about heat?
Unfortunately, none of the FN men compare to the sex appeal of the hottest woman on the network-- Nigella Lawson! She exudes sensuality and emphasises the look, taste and texture of food. Show me a man who makes food that appealing!

Sexy chef = technique, final product, then looks
The ultimate food master Masaharu Morimoto
Wolfgang Puck - he is old, but the way he handles food is sexy!
Same for Jacques Pepin
Tyler
Alton
Martin Yan
Jacques Torres
and just love Fabio Viviani - somebody give him an show!!
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
I forgot the name of the french chef with long hair on the Top Chef Masters. I found him incredibly hot. He's off limits but a girl can still dream. Tall and solid. I also liked the way he behaved.
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
I definitely second all the votes for Tony Bourdain. Sexy.
Also, if we're talking about judges on Chopped, I can't believe no one else has mentioned Scott Conant!! That smile?!? Come on!
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
I am between Jamie Oliver (when his first series began The Naked Chef and he still had his long hair and his lisp!) and Anthony Bourdain (even though he is on The Travel Channel now) since the Food Network still plays reruns of A Cooks Tour here-and-there. His attitude just turns me on!
I want to sneak into his luggage and stow me away to Vietnam so I can eat chiles with him on those boats at the water markets. Also I want to eat pig parts with him in Bangkok in the night snack carts! Mmmm...take me away Tony! I'll wear my Ramones t-shirt and prove my love to you!
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
FWIW - I fully believe that Chiarello's appearance was on TCM was shaped by reality-TV post-production. Comment's not on topic, really, and I guess I don't think any of the current FN males are all that attractive, but I just had to add my two cents!
:)
Well, hang on....if John Besh counts as FN, then I might have use my half-assed vote for him. ;)
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
chuck hughes, definitely! for all canadians!
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
@SkinnyFatty - Rick Bayless is not really on FN, although I admit to being VERY jealous when I saw he was one of the judges of the semi-finals of NFNS. I was definitely rooting for him to go all the way on TCM, not based upon food (there were several chefs who I'd rate on the food) but strickly on flutter-my-heartness. It's not just his looks and smile, but everything I know about him, he's the kind of guy whom I'd settle into my kitchen. Alas, he's contentedly married. Can we clone him?
Within my age range (*sigh*) it would definitely be Aaron Sanchez of "Chopped" (I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned him - or should I be happy at the lack of field?) and the other dark-haired judge (restauranteur?) whose name is escaping me at the moment......
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
I must have missed something. I didn't catch the parts where Michael Chiarello was acting like a jerk on Top Chef Masters. Danny Boome is adorable. I happen to find Guy hilarious and would enjoy meeting him. I'm not a fan of Anthony - rude and crude have never been turn ons for me. Alton absolutely is sexy. Robert Irvine as well. And lucky me - he may not have a show on FN, but my hubby looks very hot every evening as he cooks for me!
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
I've always been a sucker for a bad boy so you KNOW Anthony Bourdain is at the top of my list! Running neck and neck though - is Jamie Deen. Not only is he hot but he completely stole my heart when he and Bobby showed up for Paula's bridal shower wearing bridesmaids dresses. Boys who dote on their mother - how can you beat that?
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
I can't believe no one has mentioned Danny Boome! Not only is he totally cute and sexy, he seems to have a great personality and sense of humor. I really like his style of cooking, and his accent... Oh my! He can be my "Rescue Chef" anytime!!!
For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?
Tyler Florence before he got fat. He now looks similar to Bobby Flay. Totally agree with PumpkinBear about Chiarello. He had me until then too. But, because of Top Chef Masters, I kind of have a little crush on Rick Bayless now. What's hotter than the food he makes? Plus, he seems like such a nice guy.
