Cook the Book: 'The Splendid Table's How to Eat Weekends'

Weekends are for cleaning out the fridge. Creations include mystery fried rice or pasta with whatever protein I and veggie I have on hand. I'm starting to feel like I need the cook book more than I realized lmao

Ideas for a celery

you can make a beef stew :) the beef and tomatoes flavors will over power the celery. Or you can roughly chop celery, carrots, onion and potatoes and then place a roast on top then bake.

Cook the Book: 'Gourmet Today'

My first cookbook was a betty crocker cookbook. It was given to my mom as christmas gift. I grew up eating traditional Vietnamese dishes and my mom wasn't into cooking anything outside of that realm so that book was passed down to me. I learned what a casserole was and was fascinated by ambrosia. I couldn't fathom eating tomato soup or chili and now I'm a lover of both. Without that cookbook, I don't think I would have been adventurous with food as I am today.

The Crisper Whisperer: Hairy Gourd Bread

oooh! In Vietnamese it's called "Bi". Not sure what it means but my mom always make it into soup. In a large pot, she throws in some chicken, big chunks of ginger, med white onion (cut into quarters), and water to cover everything. She lets it boil until the broth smells great and the chicken is cooked thoroughly. Take out the chicken and cut it into bite size pieces. The broth is then strained and set aside. Peel, remove the seeds, and cut up the melon into slices about 1/3" thick. Now bring the ginger chicken broth back into a boil and throw the chicken pieces and melon in. Add fish sauce to taste - you will add a few table spoons. Cook until the melon is tender. Add fresh chopped cilantro and crushed black pepper to taste. Enjoy! This soup recipe is quite old and rustic and is traditionally served with rice on the side. Really cheap to make and fairly simple. Give it a try. :)

Pix or not...?

pics for sure! i rarely pick a recipe without a visual. it's more of a security blanket. it doesn't prevent failure but it nice to see what it should look like. :)

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 81: A Frank Chat with Frank Bruni on Being 'Born Round'

ab exercises prevents me from binging like crazy. when my abs are sore from a workout, the slight tingly pain reminds me of my hard work and prevents me from eating that second half-slice of cake. instead of the post binge exercise, i do preemptive workouts. i'll do some cardio and pilates before eating out, then i'll binge a little. if not, i won't remember to work it off later and it kinda screws up my diet.
