Cook the Book: 'Big Bob Gibson's BBQ Book'
I have limited barbecue eating experience, but Armadillo Willy's in the SF bay area always hit the spot.
Who Likes Grape Soda?
I adore grape soda. That wonderful faux-grape chemical taste is awesome. For that matter, i love all manner of fruit flavored sodas not common in the US. Strawberry, grape, and most of all, apple. Apple is commonly available in spain under the "kas" brand. It tastes like a soda version of a green jolly rancher. So delicious.
Mmmmm... Kas Manzana.
I'm told it's also common in Mexico.

Mario Batali's Jarred Pasta Sauces
If you watch Batali's "Authors@google" talk(youtube it), you will see that one of the audience questions is a man essentially begging him to bring back his line of sauces. Appartenly, they originally were released through Trader Joe's exclusively, but Batali terminated the agreement when TJ's altered the recipe without consulting him. I think $6 a jar is just too much for a broke college student like me.

Hoagie Haven in Princeton, NJ: Phat Ladies, Chocolate Cheesesteaks, and Happy Undergrads
The UCLA equivalent has to be a restaurant affectionately known as buck fitties($.50). The late night fast food stand, now Tommy's Tacos, is still referred to as buck fitties, even by students who never attended UCLA when that was still its' proper name, including myself.
The food is more or less what you would expect for a restaurant open until 3AM, with burgers and burritos topping the menu. However, buck fitties' signature dish has to be their dream fries, an order best eaten while in what SE would call an "altered state." Dream fries consist of a base layer of french fries, covered in cheese and steak or bacon, topped with sour cream and avocado. Just a short walk from fraternity row and the majority of westwood's apartments, the line gets long after 2AM when hungry undergrads leave their parties to grab a bite. A drunk meal at buck fitties is absolutely a prerequisite for graduation.
Aluminum cookware safety issues
LunaOier and Kerosena: well done. Just wanted to add a third voice agreeing with them. There is absolutely 0 causal link between aluminum and alzheimers.
Post hoc ergo propter hoc.
Although, I asked an alzheimers researcher friend of mine once, and she informed me that there is some evidence that alzheimers can cause higher levels of aluminum in the body, but never the other way around.
Going to be in LA LA land next week
If you can get to the Kogi truck while you are here, it's really special.
Uses for Fried Eggs
Ahh many amazing ideas. I especially like the black bean cakes!
Thanks everybody!
Hell's Kitchen...WTF??
It's an awful show. Ramsay hosts it without an ounce of taste or class. The chefs have a total lack of basic culinary knowledge. The contestants seem to have below average intelligence, and I would imagine so does the targeted viewer.
Who Should Be on Reality TV: White, Steingarten, or Ramsay?
Steingarten for sure. Let Marco Pierre White stay on TV, ban Ramsay from appearing in front of television cameras. I must admit that I love cooking reality TV. But, Hell's kitchen is simply unwatchable and completely tasteless.

Mario Batali's Jarred Pasta Sauces
I'm with the other posters on here. If I wanted a recipe i'd have asked for one. Bought Mario Batali's sauce last night at Food Emporium in midtown Manhattan.
"Pasta sauce, almost by definition, is fast and easy to make. Stop wasting your money on these BS, corn syrup-laden monstrosities. " Uh, there is no corn syrup or sugar added to the Batali sauces. They are incredible!
Keep you comments to facts girlie...
Mario Batali's Jarred Pasta Sauces
just bought this at publix in central fl for $6. i chose the arribiata sauce because i wanted some heat. IT WAS HOT!! delicious, but if you aren't into spicy foods..this is not for you.
Mario Batali's Jarred Pasta Sauces
@Mayab7: if you are in NYC area, sauces will be in Food Emporium as of this week.
The Sauces have no added sugar, paste or puree and use fresh ingredients. That is why they taste fresh but also carry a higher price tag than the Pregos and Ragus and Classico or Newman's or Barilla which all use these additive ingredients.
Mario Batali's Jarred Pasta Sauces
I just discovered MB's Vodka and Marinara Sauces. Because I'm such a fan I bought one of each. We had the Vodka sauce the other night and I decided I never need to make pasta sauce again! I could never touch the quality of this sauce. It had a little heat, bits of fresh tomato and garlic. It was so yummy. Now I have a problem. I cannot find the sauce anywhere! Either I can't remember where I found it, or where I got it has run out, or they aren't carrying it anymore. I am obsessed. I must find where to purchase this sauce.
