It's So Hard to Say Goodbye

Aww thanks guys! I've had an excellent summer here and I'll definitely miss you all. But really, please do come to New Haven and eat pizza with me. I am ALWAYS up for a trip to Wooster Street. Or BAR. Or wherever.

ZOMG! I mean, it's still not Sally's, but how can I complain if I get to eat New Haven-style pizza when I'm home in White Plains AND when I'm at school. Amazing.

Basil Custard Kicks off July at the Shake Shack

It was good, but my mouth still tastes like basil two hours later, despite the fact that I drank a Snapple and ate a sandwich in between. How much basil went into that thing anyway??

@CrazyMarine I don't think it will be too crowded mid afternoon. I don't think that they will have a problem cooking the burger beyond medium but I have to ask why you would want it that way. it is a very lean mix and the more you cook the more dried out it will be.

I am heading there tomorrow for the first time, prob get there like 3pm. Is it usually really busy at that time? Can I get the burger cooked beyond medium or do they frown upon that like they frown upon ketchup and french fries and buns and any other normal thing?

I just tried it today. This review overall is very accurate.

Of course, it could use some sort of sauce cause it is a little dry and needs something to balance it out with some wetness. But honestly, even just a little more (or even a lot more) salt would greatly improve the burger. I agree that the burger itself was very beefy and tasty but just a little more salt and it would have been twice as good. It was very flat tasting.

Was it the best burger by any means? No, but it was fun to go (although we had to wait literally 50 minutes for our burgers--even though the woman said it would be 20 minutes)...

After many tries, I was in New haven and Louis Lunch was open. I got a cheese, tomato, onion, med rare. It was tasty and reminded me of my grandma's hamburgers on white bread. She never had condiments either.

Now come on, i grew up in Pittsburgh and know everything tastes better with Heinz ketchup on it!
And I mean Everything.

I tired it and liked it, but I dont need to go again.

The Yonkers Pepe's Pizzeria will duplicate the coal oven utilized at New Haven. In addition the same old-world processes and ingredients will be utilized to create the same thin-crust slice of heaven that has been consumed for years at New Haven. The Pepe's family will be responsible for operations at Yonkers and strive to create the highest quality pizza holding tribute to their grandfather Frank Pepe !

Sugar Rush: Nutella Ricotta Calzone at Toby's Public House

Could this be New York's third-best dessert (behind Fleur de Sel's caramelized granny smith apple crepe and various warm valrhona chocolate cakes, most notably @ JoJo and the...sadly...now defunct Mark)? Well, we took a group of six on a mission to answer this question. One member of our party, for whom English is a second language simply declared "this is ridiculous!!" For her, 'ridiculous' is akin to 'bad' of the 70s. She recalled eating Nutella out of a jar with a spoon all during high school. This, she declared, would retain similar memories. All agreed, ricotta and Nutella in a calzone shell was Nobel Prize-worthy genius. Toby's is a keeper: the pizzas, while not perfect, were fine. Dips and small plates were like the pixillations on an Impressionist canvas. The beer selection will please all and the dessert calzone......

Had a trip to New Haven and simply HAD to go and sample the burgers. I guess now I can say I've had one, but certainly wasn't WOW'd by the burger. Beef and onion cooked perfectly, and it was juicy and beefy tasting. It was barely seasoned (if at all) and the toast they put it on was pretty much like cardboard. Now that I've had one, no need to return.
